How long do you guys run scoobys at trackdays?

Post by ESL »

I've got no oil cooler and no oil temp gauge so want to err on the side of safety. Is 10 mins on and 10 mins off OK or too cautious? Thtall be 5-6 laps of Cadwell full circuit.

Cheers

Andy

Tricky one Andy, mine runs hot so within a couple of mins was well over 110C without an oil cooler, reckon 10-15 mins should be okay, depends on the ambient temps as well.

when testing the rally car have used certain trackdays as cheap excerise, reguarly ran for 20-30mins with no issues, however, a lot of more std cars will probaly have run out of brakes, etc. long before this.............

I would say that 10 minutes 'on' would be fine, subject to how long you allow to warm your tyres. As for how long you allow for cooling........discretion would say no more than 10 minutes until the residual heat builds up after the first few sessions. At that point maybe the 20 minutes.

Last time there I did 12 laps on the bounce.

The brakes died :(

This time, i will play it by ear but 10 mins on and 10 off sounds about right to start with then maybe 15 mins on 15 off or longer if all is well :D

hi andy i run a standard 03 sti with only a brake upgrade , with goodyear f1 at the moment,

we find that we run about a 10 min session as i only have the water temp as a guide but it doesn't
move from half way. my driving style also doesn't help the tyres :-D

but i would like to add that we had all the fluids renewed thoughout the car before we started .

we are going to look for some way of measuring more engine temps and pressures just for
piece of mind.

i'm not a specialist and am not telling you what to do as cars and driving styles differ but this is what we are happy with.
just give it plenty of time to cool down. what i did do last time was when the car stood cooling down i pushed it forward
a few inches a couple of times to stop too much heat being retained between the pad and disc .

have a good one :thumb:

cheers

Sounds like a sensible approcah, but don't be fooled by thinking teh car is okay as the water temp gauge is fine, they are damped massively so you, teh onwer doesn;t worries abou them moving up and down a lot. I have an after market water temp and oil temp gauge, the the difference I can see in the variation of the water temp guage compared to the standard one is comedy, the aftermarket one can move circa 20 degress and the statndard one doesn't move a millimetre!

Thanks all

The Godspeeds may well wilt before I have to worry about oil temp! Will I get the RE070s warm before the rest of the car becomes a fireball?

This does of course assume I survive Debden!

See you all on track soon.
