Making RE070s work.

Post by ESL »

Hi all

I've managed to fit a set of Bridgestone RE070s to a classic (1200kg) Impreza, but am struggling for a setup which is an improvement on the Goodyear Eagle F1s I had before.

If you have used them before, can you give me an indication of what pressures you used to run them at.

My fear is that they need to be very hot to work, and they won't get up to temperature on a single sprint lap.

Many Thanks

Andy

I have tried various setups on them and have mainly just ran them at normal road pressures of 34/32 cold. I did drop these to 27psi at the ring as they were very hot at the end of the lap and this was pretty good although a little squirmy at the start of the lap.

I did the MLR sprint on them at slightly higher than normal road pressures - approx 36/35 as it was a short lap and pressure helped.

I am sure they dont need to be very hot but definitely not cold.

Just a case of experimenting I reckon.

if you dont like them, then I may take them off your hands :)

Hi Andy,

not a tyre for sprints I'm afraid - at Donnington I needed around 3 laps to get them working.
R888s would be better suited to your application IMHO.
Nordschleife PB of 8:38 (btg)
JDM STi MR400 running @ 1.1bar (296bhp/338ftlb), stock suspension and tyres
AP Strapdrive front disc/bells with DS2500 pads, stock rear discs with EBC Yellows & Motul RBF600

Thanks Dunc - I've tried everything from 30-36psi so far. I think I will save them for ring/trackdays, be nice to get them hot and see what they can do.

Hi Zak, that sort of confirms the thinking. Unfortunately I can't run R888s in my current sprint class as they are list 1b tyres.

Somebody made me a decent offer for my Eagles on my superleggaras so they've gone :?

Anybody got a set of lightweight wheels and GSD3s (or other good list 1a tyre) to fit over Godspeeds on a classic wrx please get in touch!

Cheers for the help

Andy

Andy, you muppet, selling your other wheels  And your Goodyears were so good as they were worn down to circa 3mm.

I have a good stock now:

Rays with RE070's. think I will just sell the tyres.
Rota 18" with new Toyo T1S's, may sell!!
Work Emotion with GSD3's, on at the mo for this Sundays outing at Goodwood.

I did notice a massive difference in weight with the Rys, they are mega light, so i am going to try my Goodyears on them, see how that works as with a wider track, and lighter unsprung mass I am hoping it may give an improvement....hopefully get tis done in time for Debden.

Depends, should be circa 700 with decent tyres, I paid a fair bit less, had a cheeky ebay purchase. Mine are the monoblock forged jobbies.

Problem is, they are as rare as rocking horse sh1t!!
