Turbo question?!?

Is it possible to make 400-425bhp from a mitsi td05 16g turbo :?: with the compressor maxed out :?: :oops:

would have thought thats beyond a factory spec turbo, but have seen a few cars get near with a hybrid (along with engine/supporting mods obviously)....................

Impossible.

But, even it if was possible the turbo would be not running very efficiently at that range and would be heating the air to near inferno temperatures and your engine would not last.

Getting a bigger, better, more efficient turbo will help keep things cool as daft as it sounds and you wont need to run so much boost.

Dont go chasing numbers though Andy, go for a driveable option and remember that any modifications you make should be balanced against other mods. If you start stretching this, then it will find the next weakest link very quickly.

I would stick my neck out and say your engine will not stand anywhere close to that before rapidly destructing.

If you feel you need that bhp, then you will have to:

a) get a new engine
b) new clutch
c) probably a new gearbox too
d) new turbo
e) FMIC
f) have lots of money for the other bits that you might aswell do when it is all apart.

My advice would be to push power levels up slowly to learn how the car responds to it and see which bits need modifying next as almost doubling the power output on an old engine/car will lead to tears.

Yes a hybrid turbo with a slightly larger compressor wheel would be the way to go to get more volume of air at the same or lower boost and as you rightly say and very importantly less heat.

Cheers for the advice Duncan, im not going chasing numbers. It was merely out of curiosity as someone claimed this figure :!:

Next modifications i do will be;
1. Suspension
2. 4 pot conversion or a 2 pot rear set up
3. fully decated
4. Clutch
5. Ecu

Then when i've got these sorted i'll be looking at breaking 300bhp with turbo, injectors, fuel pump and what not :!:

I feel at the moment, i want to get used to my car on track rather than Jaynes :oops: :lol:

I call BS. definately not a true statement. what 16g are we talking about? small 16g, big 16g, or evo 3 16g? many different variants out there.... the evo 3 16g which happens to be the largest single scroll variant out that runs a td05H flows 585 CFM in standard form....do the math. it definately is possible to make 400bhp on that turbo...the question is very broad and basic and should be specific.....

I agree with this statement to a point...yes it wont be in its main efficiency island...but it would still be efficient enough to make that power. its overspeeding the turbine wheel is what I would be conerned with...running a turbo at this level is very hard...but doable. mitsu turbos are very reliable.

disagree here...thats what a compressor map is for...if it is heating up the air too much..then its out of its efficiency...is it not?

and neither would the drivetrain...the 5 speeds, and the R160 rear diffs are garbage in the GC8s.

sound advice..cant argue with that....

however at this point...I would look into another car...too many weak parts on the GC8....would spend more on the car then its worth IMO.

Interesting first post.

Maybe an idea to introduce yourself in the relevant forum so we understand a little about your background (both from a driving standpoint and an experience one :thumb: ) I am happy for open and frank discussion on any and all subjects but it's always nice to know who we're talking too.

hello... just got on here...and saw this post..and its something I know something about...so I figured I would give my thoughts....thats all.

intros are a bit overrated IMO. As far as experiences goes....well I have more than a few years at many different levels of racing...but not really interested in talking about myself to be honest. :D

secondly - your experience/background/vehicle is what - please update your profile to include your vehicle and provide an intro post/description of who you are/what you drive and what you intend to use your vehicle for.

thirdly - glad some of what I said isnt balls but without an answer to 2 how do we know what you're saying isnt balls. :D

intros are a bit overrated IMO. As far as experiences goes....well I have more than a few years at many different levels of racing...but not really interested in talking about myself to be honest.

Let me guess you suggest getting a white Evo3 rs as they the quickest :!: :!: :lol: :-$
