Exedy Clutch Questions

Christian - a few questions
1) what power/torque will the Exedy GDB impreza 6 speed clutch handle?
2) can you give a price with a lightened flywheel aswell? (pm if you like)
3) how much heavier do they feel?
The feel is important for me as my car still needs to be useable on a daily basis by both me and rachel so wouldnt want anything that requires the leg muscles of a sumo wrestler to operate and is on/off. Is there a way to get beefier clutch without the heaviness?

Dunc, I can answer the question on feel, I have an AP organic clutch with a lightened flywheel. The clutch feel is no different to a standard one. You can drive it in traffic fine etc. Its the paddle clutches that get heavy and are very on or off.

Is yours a single plate Logan?
Been reading a bit about the exedy single versus exedy twin - doesnt seem to be a lot in it althought the twin will handle more abuse/torque. (Christian - I presume you can supply and fit twins?)
I dont have clutch slip issues at the moment though with the std clutch.

I would say go for the twin if you think you'll be doing a few QTR launches etc .. I've got an Exedy Single (Dunc you've felt what that's like) - but it's just no good for launches - I previously had an OSGiken Twin which allowed me to build up the revs and just let go ....
If you try that with the Exedy single it just doesn't like it. So for the Qtr I have to start the car rolling before pushing the loud pedal.
I will add, it was doing 5 QTR's back to back that caused the OSGiken to fail especially on my last run when I launched @ 5000 so I could beat an R6 - and I did beat it in 1st, 2nd, then Bang! .. 3rd gave up

I have the AP organic in my car. Just as Logan says, it's light and you wouldn't know it was anything but OE, drives nicely in traffic and on a 1/4.
It's been in the car for 35K+ miles (I'll have to get the speedo working

) and gets hard launched at sprints, on a now, regular basis.
AFAIK Exedy make the AP clutches.

Just need to figure out what sort of levels my exist clutch can cope with - seems to be doing fine for now

Duncan we are a major Exedy stockist so can no doubt help with your "one-stop" shopping even further 8) as well as AP, Helix, etc.
don't get confused between a single plate/twin plate style clutch kit and an 'organic' kit, the first two are both paddle style..................
if you want the drive of a std style then you have to go with an organic style - although the twin plates are a reasonable if pricey compromise, but generally speaking a paddle style clutch will have a poor life used on a street car

cheers Alyn - I like one stop shopping (in case you hadnt noticed :lol:)
Will be sticking with std for the time being til this one starts to slip (it hasnt yet) btu I am sure it will soon or even if it doesnt it will wear out eventually
Just see so many stories of people 'having' to upgarde clutches at 300 lb/ft and wondered my std one is still good. Maybe I am kind to my car :?
