Turbo jackets

Has anybody used one of these or has any knowledge or infomation on the benefits and downfalls of using them.

I think,

They are what Dunc wears, as they're like a regular jacket, only they give you slightly more boost and a quicker time on track !!!!

Fundamentally, the idea is that the hotter the turbo and exhaust is they more effecient it all is and more power you can make, right up to the point at which your EGT's are too high and stuff starts to melt !!!! What the parameters are for your setup I have no idea, but theres plenty of people that use them from vids and setups I have seen online. I realise that you guys are primarily interested in their protection for other parts in the engine bay qualities, but thats not so much what they were invented for from my understanding.

Thanks for the insight J.

I think it might be time for Bart to get the power tools out again, to install a vent just behind the turbo to get more heat out, but not to allow water to fall onto the turbo :grin:

I'm pretty sure it comes down to gasflow. Hot gasses are less dense than cold ones, therefore they flow better allowing them to leave the engine quicker. I guess it's comparable to squeezing tomato ketchup out of a bottle, then squeezing water from the same bottle.

Presumably wrapping the turbo will keep more heat in the exhaust and lower engine bay temps too.

yep - that is my understanding.

Helps reduce in bay temps and keeps the heat in the turbo to help with spool up.

I used the blanket material on mine. It's sold by the square metre and cheaper than a purpose made jacket. You can use as many layers as you want and the surplus can be used elsewhere, like on the i/c pipework.

Don't forget, you could always get everything ceramic coated instead of wrapping it too.

So Charles,
Do you do ceramic coating then or do you put the turbo in a vase lol.
Like the ketchup/water comparison. Do you eat alot of chips mate?
Seriously thoughthis is quite correct.
From what i do i know that mild steel exhausts actually perform better than stainless as they retain more heat which scavenges exhaust gases away from the engine. That is why alot of the performance jap exhausts are mild steel and ceramic coated such as Nismo.

As it happens eddy, I hate ketchup and I'm not even a big fan of chips! :D But you knew what I was getting at!


As for ceramic coatings, a quick google effort found this place. But you'll probbaly be better buying a big vase for the pulsar.... then mine'll be faster! :grin:
