Recommendations for keeping black paint glossy

My dad has finally got round to getting a new car, a 53 plate A4 estate in black. I was speaking to him last night, it's getting the little stone chips and scratches done at the moment so he wants to keep the paint in good condition once it's been done.

What have people used, and is there a wax that you'd recommend for black paint?

I'm sure you've all seen the pictures of Goodap's car and how good that looked - how do I* keep the paint looking like that?

Cheers

The garage is so full of toot even the Cinq can't fit in there. I think it's been parked in there about twice since we've lived there.....about 10 years

George, I felt upset you didnt think of my gleaming black car first

Even Ben recognises how clean my car is when I spend some time cleaning it !! Praise indeed I think.

My tips for cleaning and keeping a black car clean are:

Wash and thoroughly dry the car (making sure all the parts under the lights, mirror etc are bone dry - use kitchen towel as this should help pull the water), I am a bit of a Meguiars freak so use the NXT shampoo and one of the dry cloths to dry it instead of a leather.

Then the fun begins....

1, Meguiars Clay bar all over the car (only needs doing once a year but worth it to start with)
2, Meguiars stage 1 Paint cleaner polish (again this only needs doing once a year)
3, Meguiars NXT Polish - this has wax in it aswell and make sure you do small areas of about 2 feet across, this is the important bit...go circles, then up and down, then side to side (black polish is a nightmare for smearing if the polish doesnt get put on evenly). Wipe off with a Meguiars Terry towel
4, Meguiars Stage 3 Carnuba wax - this adds to the wax in the NXT and you will not believe the finish....it will be like glass

Next time you probably only need to wash and wipe off, if you want to do it more often just the NXT polish should be enough but I cant emphasise enough how important it is to get a good layer of NXT polish and then the carnuba wax the first time it is done properly !!!

Did mine recently...here is a pic....

Definatley Meguiars!! I try to wax mine every month but only "condition" once a year. Also use Megiuars Quick Detailer if you don't have time to wax...i.e. a show or a day out. Keep in mind that the Quick Detailer takes off wax, so try not to overuse!

Also try Meguiars Gold, perfect for dark colors! 8)

Cheers for the advice guys - I'll pass it on to the old man :D

As I'm lazy, any recommendations of where to get the Meguires stuff?

Halfrauds do it now.

Or Demon Tweaks do also.

Might be worth PM'ing Gary (Shooter) as he might be able to get some for you at a 'special price' !!!
