Brake caliper paint - your recommendations please

Post by BrianGT4 »

Hi guys,

Are the caliper paint kits any good?...do they last long?

I've also heard of people using Hammerite or smoothrite....is this any better?

Thanks in advance for any info :thumb:

I bought a kit from Halfrauds and it was easy enough to use and lasted well. I don't see why Hammerite wouldn't work well too, but I'm not familiar with it's abilities to cope with heat. Obviously I presume you get your brakes hot unlike my Celica owners I know ;) (Sorry Dave, I'm trying to provoke you into finishing that bloody car :) )

I got some Halfrauds red Caliper paint, was only about 6 squid for a big pot, enough to my calipers.

But...take your take when you do it !!!!! I cant stress that enough.

I would do 1 caliper one evening, let it dry a whole evening and then day (if you can) and then do the next one. To be honest I dont use my car during the week and did the whole lot in a week but would recommend doing it and leaving as long as poss before you drive it, the paint takes ages to dry !!!

Just my opinion.

Good old Hammerite sprayed on has always done the trick for me. Used it on the Golf and Supers with no probs.

Thanks guys,

Hammerite it is then!...cheap and easy to get hold of

I have bought set of second hand calipers for my car,

so I can take my time to refurb them with paint and new seals, hope to get them done in time for Nurburg :thumb:

Also looking at getting some grooved discs too (cash allowing :? )

The only thing with Hammerite is that on track days it can melt, i have a friend whos red hammerite melted and went all over his new wheels, it took him ages to get off!!!!
