Baffled Sump

Post by cannit »

Anyone had one of these fitted? Ive been advised that if you are planning a trackday, especially if you have fitted uprated suspension and/or track tyres then a baffled sump should almost be a nessesity. Its a must have for the Honda VTEC's due to the high revving and i imagine it would be a similar story for people with other manufactured cars which had had a power boost?

They are designed to limit the amount of oil splashing up the side of the block (inside!!) and to keep it in the sump so that there is always oil at the pick up point for the oil pump.. If there is no oil there and the pump sucks air and youve got your foot down round a corner at X,000rpm then the possibility of your engine making it through the corner becomes lower

Anyone know a place in this area that can fabricate one up for me as pre made ones have a 4 week + waiting period on them at the moment for my particular engine :(

Thanks

That looks like a great bit of kit there Stu.. Id heard a little about these but never really chased it up.

What a nice little bit of kit :D

Did you get yours from the US? What else do you require in order to run one?

I bought mine from Keith Cowie in a group buy but Gary can get these too. All I bought as options in the kit was the electronic pressure valve and a sandwich plate........and a bloody long length of braided pipe work :)

Yeah, I have a GReddy large capacity baffled sump.

The only downside is that it makes oil changes more expensive...

I think you would agree Ben, that the extra few quid on oil now and again is so easily covered by the peace of mind and enhanced safety for the engine when you are pressing on..........in my eyes it is one of the best modifications I have made to the car (and I have made a couple :) )

Oh yeah I totally agree :)

The only issue I've found with the GReddy ones (might also be the same on the Skyline) is that with them being cast ally its very easy to strip the threads on the sump plug... So much so that I'd recommend getting it helicoiled before fitting :)

I think Spoon or Mugen do a baffled sump for the DC2 but as a always they do cost a couple of pennies.

Was going to suggest http://www.itr-dc2.com/forum/index.php but found you already on there!

Not being able to gat a baffled sump off the shelf for my GTT, I have had one custom made by Rising Sun Performance. It is now a larger capacity with a Tomei GTR baffle kit.
