[Excel] Simulate different gearbox ratios with your dynorun

Post by andycaca »

Here is an excel sheet which allows you to enter the known true power figures of your car (torque figures read off your dyno printout) and see the true torque at the wheels.
Torque at the wheels is one of two main factors in how fast your car is (the other is weight, which is hard to simulate so for this exercise i am ignoring its existance!).

Once youve entered the torque figures (i have preloaded the spreadsheet with my own dyno plot for the terminally lazy amongst you), click on the graph tabs and see how much power your car is putting to the wheels. This cannot take into account the wheels you have fitted, so consider these rough "at the hub figures".

One feature i was really keen to see when i first started playing around with this (two years ago now!) was to compare two gearboxes. its fairly common knowledge that different models of the celica GT4 have different gear ratios, but hard to visualise exactly what this means.

Click here to get the excel spreadsheet

please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments on this, eg compare road speeds...also feel free to update the base statistics with your own marques. it would be really cool to compare scooby vs evo vs GT4

heres a comparison of the ST205 vs the RAV4 gearbox
in every case, the upper most line belongs to the RAV4

aside from 1st, the gear ratios arent that much lower. I feel first gear would be totally useless with this mod.

heres a 06 scooby vs the 205 gearbox

1st and 2nd are identical. the remaining 3 gears are very slightly shorter than the 205 (around 5%).

a little bit of geeky fun :)
