Wheel Balancing

Just had a puncture looked at and also the front wheels balanced.

First place couldn't find the puncture then balanced the wheels and they were still out, shaking like anything and tyre deflated overnight.

Second place found the puncture, however said the first place had "static" balanced them which meant 1 weight on the inside of the wheeland they said this was wrong and incorrect. They put the other wheel on their machine (which had been balanced by the first place) and they said it was out badly. They balanced them and now they are great Smile They said car wheels are supposed to have 2 weights on them indstead of the 1 the first place had put on.

Both places are big tyre companies and I've been back to the first place for a full refund but they were very reluctant to give it and said that they balanced them correctly and static balancing is how its supposed to be.

Are there different methods to balancing wheels?

I had my tyres balanced at one place and they were terrible. When I went elsewhere to have them checked it turned out they had done a quick "off-roader" style balance job. Like you say, only one weight per whel. It seems that with the bigger tyres on an off roader the balancing doesn't have to be so precise :?:
