Hi Ben,

As mentioned, Cusco do both through and around dash. All of the Cusco are bolt in and yes they do go through the carpet, however, normally the pile of the capet will blind the hole once the bolts are removed :-D Both are available in steel (black) or cromolly (blue).

As for insurance, im not sure :(

Hope this helps

Lloyd

Boy's again excellent feedback - Think i'm going to source some additional rear cards prior to purchasing the cage so I can modify them when I order the cage.

just a few quick pointers............

most insurance companies will load your premium (there are exceptions as above)
the main issue is to do with occupant injuries in the event of an accident particuarly if your using std 3pt belts...........ever seen a melon hit with a hammer??

personally i don't like fully caged cars on the street due to the potential to have a fatal accident due to hitting your head on the internal tubing
(and we own/build/race various competition vehicles!!)

you really need to be wearing a helmet and have a pukka harness to make a caged car "safe"..........

Something I'd not thought of at all - just assumed that they made the car safer, but see exactly what you mean.

Will have to give this a bit more thought - I was looking to replace the front seats for full buckets and harnesses were on the list.

Ben

I can't help thinking, in the cold light of day, that you'll never fit a cage as long as you have a hole in your arse :) Your GTR is your pride and joy. You have already said that you don't drive it hard on the road and don't really drive it hard on the track either. To cage a car you instantly compromise your comfort, your useability and your resale value.

I know full well what you mean about the 'look'. A prepared R32 has a certain swagger about it that few cars can match, although I am very biaised in that respect. If your GTR was a tatty old dog like mine, fair enough- cage away, but yours is mint.....don't sod it up :)

PS~ I drove my Sierra for a while when it was road legal and my 6 point cage was a right royal pain in the butt. As Alyn says, it hurts when you hit your head on it :thumb:

exactly right! in my own case, the rear section of the cage is welded in but the driver space portion of the cage has been mounted with nuts and bolts, allowing easy refitting for trackdays.

HIC were the only insurance company who would cover the installation of a rollcage in my celica without hiking the premium to silly amounts.

Can't view the pics - it's a tricky one - i've read some very good feedback on here with reasons for and reasons against.

To be totally honest - my originally requirement was for the look, the track safety an added bonus :).

But I had not thought about the problems a cage creates - for your head.

As to Stu, Gareth, saying that my car is too minty to do it too - or more to the point that i'd not be able to go through with it - do you mean that I should really sell my current car and buy a less tidy machine - if so It has crossed my mind - however mine is mechanically 100% - and it's your fault that I like driving on the track :) - your fault that my once mint car has stone chips :) - so i've begun looking at it differently - I don't want door dings so will still avoid carparks - but I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm going to start the transformation of my car - I've had it two years almost and have been quite reserved with the mods - my only real visable mods are the Exhaust and Wheels.

So I will be having a long hard think about whether to cage or not - I don't really use the car apart from the Meets and the track sessions!.

I used to be of the same opinion, but after this happened to a friend of mine:

I kind of changed my mind... Without the cage I think it wopuld have been a very different story
