Try Bilstein. Excellent quality and made with the road in mind, not all out track.
EDIT: Actually scrap that. I had a quick look for you and it seems they only make coilovers for that model Impreza

Hi there, might seem a strange question but is there a decent aftermarket shock that would go on my 03 STI...i don't want to lower the car as the front lip will last about an hour or stiffen it up as i am happy with std settings plus i do approx 700 miles a week in it....just wondered if there is a cheaper alternative to Subaru replacements without going the coilover route????? Cheers

I'd have said just replace the springs with Prodrive or Eibach types. That seems to be the general recommendation for UK roads from the better tuners i've spoken with. They will still lower the car though but only by about 15mm-25mm- depending on what you buy, and maybe stiffen the suspension a fraction but they reckon the ride is improved no end as they still offer some decent compliancy
You already have the inverted struts on it which i'm told are very good so i would go for the springs. STi struts and the above springs are very likely the way i will go in due course.
