K Sport / Tarox Brakes Big Kits?

Post by MichaelH »

Ok well first of all, Happy New Year everyone! Hope Santa brought you lots of nice pressies.

I've been looking at brakes and wondered if anyone has heard of or have opinions on K Sport or Tarox brakes?

Good or bad opinions welcome! I've seen a 10 and 12 pot kit from Tarox (eg http://www.stevehillmotorsport.com/part ... e-kits.htm) which I believe will goon under my wheels, and I'm sure I've seen a 10 pot kit from K-Sport but can't find an example link right now!

I think the brakes on mine are well overdue an upgrade as I'm still running round on standard 4 pots, and hope to do a bit more track based stuff this year, so any feedback welcome!

Cheers,

Michael.

HNY to you too Michael.

iirc Stu has just purchased a set of the K Sport big brakes - check his rebuild thread out for pics but they come highly rated from all accounts.

Hi Michael

Happy new year :thumb:

Yeah, Dunk is correct, I have a 8pot 355mm front and 6pot 355mm rear kit coming from K-Sport via Bren at Apex. They should be here within the next week or so. I bought these for two reasons. Exceptional value for money and thorough testing.

In my mind the fact that Bren has spanked these brakes really hard on UK and European trackdays for ages speaks for itself. I've followed his R33 around Snetterton and in terms of braking, there was nothing in it between his car and Garys AP equipped Evo 7, one of the quickest cars I know at that track.

I have researched this decision pretty carefully as many of the established track goers were of the opinion that you get what you pay for. That may be right but I was hapy enough with what I found and the front and rears combined cost less than the fronts of someone like AP on their own!

I've seen the 10 pots of Tarox and a few others but they are all priced much closer to the normal

Hi Stuart,

And thanks for that info, sounds like they might do the job nicely :)

Scooby Clinic do a 6 pot, but I figured with the power I'm running I ought to go for something with a bit more stopping power.

Hope to make it along to a few more events this year, didn't have much luck getting to stuff last year. Its all a case of cash depending at the moment though...

The number of pots/pistons have no direct relation to the amount of braking force. Braking force is a sum of the size of the disc, the abrasive nature of the pads and the force exerted by the pistons I believe.

It's worth having a chat with Bren or one of the guys at Apex and see what they recommend for your application.

All the best

Stu

I have some K-sport 8 pots on my s14a, had them nearly a year now, i think they are fantastic brakes personally, couldn't fault them!!

Very good for normal day to day driving, but on the virgin track day they were much much better once warmed up!! Bren Runs them on his track cars as Stu mentioned, great value for money too!!

Thats an old picture of my K-sports, only ones i could find, they were orange, now got black ones as they colour faded after a while.

Thanks for the input everyone, much appreciated.

I'll have a chat with a few experts in the brake field and see where I go :)

I will be going for a set of the K Sport 8 pots in March or April.

The pads they come with are supposed to be ok, but i have spoken to Carbotech who will be able to make some pads up for them
