Hi Guys been offered a 1992 Mazda RX7 import red auto done 95k km. I know there is the issue with re-build but what should I look for?
The car isn't to keep just buy sell and make a quick few pennys but I dont want to buy a complete nail.
Any advice on what to look for and worst situation what would one be worth that needs a rebuild?
Cheers Guys

RX7 FD3 Buying Help.
I'll be honest and say I'd never go for an auto, you'll only end up wanting a manual.
You are best to go for an import Type R or RZ (if you can find one) model as this has harder suspension plus more importantly strut braces and twin oil coolers (as opposed to 1 on the other models).
Also be warned that the red coloured cars are prone to fade.
You are best to buy one with a rebuilt engine as a rebuild can cost anything between

Thankyou
I think I will see if can get a deal sub 2k and then try and sell on for a small profit.
I 100% agree they are one of the best looking coupes from Japan but I am fairly fond of my skybarge.
I had a look today and stuck my finger in the water tank on the left and it was full and clean and smelt normal so I assume this is a good thing?
Cheers

Water tank on the left is an overflow one anyway, you need to take off the cap in the middle when looking at the front and it should be just about the flat piece of metal around where the cap is. But in all honesty you need to start the car, does it start ok from cold ? Then start it once it is warm again, if it starts fine then the engine should be ok. You'd also need to go on a test drive to check the turbos are working correctly.onlyady wrote:Thankyou

Interestingly there are loads of cheap ones for sale awaiting engine rebuilds - I've seen them for 2k or so ... as with anything there is now a lot of choice and ebay has forced prices into the ground.
Me, personally, I wouldn't waste my time buying one unless it was only a few hundred squid, especially being an auto ... not a desirable set up in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, I love the RX and if I didn't have a GTR, I would be driving an FD, but I would want an absolute minter and it would have to have had a rebuild and be manual.
