Apparently the 6 speed MX5 (and RX8 and IS200) all share a similar gearbox, if they exist then some uprated parts should be interchangable

PhatBob:
Thanks for your reply, guess I was looking superficially at the gearbox.

I do like OS Giken, I use the twin plate clutch in my car. Fantastic.

BenTaylor:
I have heard the same too (but inclusive of more cars like S2000) but I have no idea how true this is. Good plan though at looking at those cars for modified gearboxes though!

Time for more research me thinks!

400 bhp in an MX5 !!!! Thats obscene mate !!!!

But good fun I reckon, MX5 is a really understated car.

My approximate aim of 400bhp is nothing.

One guy is starting project 500 in his car, that's right 500bhp...from the 1.8 engine...he's going down the route of rx7 gearbox, clutch and diff. I can't do that as I already shelled a load out for the OS Giken twin plate.

Just read the replies from Quaiffe and PPG, they won't help me..or can't.

Quaiffe require me to buy at least 10...and PPG have no time :(

Oh well plenty of time to search...

I think that you need to look at the RX7 route, you may find that the splines fit the clutch pack that you have.

The RX7 clutch is a push type and the MX5 is pull (or is it visa versa, whichever way it is it means the gearbox and clutch needs swapping out completely).

Anyone know who wants to buy a 2nd hand twin plate?
