You say the RAC guy thinks there is a massive power drain? This was before the coilpacks were used/engine started.

A faulty earth would limit the drain on the battery not cause there to be a greater one...

You got any ICE that may not be shutting down correctly? Maybe a stuck relay somewhere that is not removing a supply when the ignition is off.

The misfire may well be an effect, not the cause....

How are you getting on with it?

ICE .. lol - you've not seen my stereo have you :) - it's the original and it barely works.

When the problem first occurred the car was turning over but not firing so he plugged in a booster and it fired up. It would stay running but then miss when revved. It then fired up a few times with no issue. On a further test it cut out.

It then wouldn't start under it's own steam. Checked the earths with a multimeter and it they seemed ok - however on the turn of the key the battery was being hammered. Again added booster and it fired up.

A battery check showed it to ok - not 100%.

When the car cut out on the ring road it died completely and everything we tried would not bring her back to life.

As to progress - it still sat there with bolts and engine parts on the drivers floor. Going to order my new coilpacks etc in feb. Put it all back together and see what goes.

Could be the plates in the battery, one is a bit loose and drains the power on an intermitant basis?

I have a Snap On battery tester if you want to borrow it?

Ben,

Did you consider the ECU might be your issue in all this? If you are still waiting on coil packs, why not get it out and down to the ecu doc. If there is nothing up with it i dont think he charges that much.

Cheers,

Ben.

Hello mate,

Sure, http://www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk/

He runs a business checking and repairing automotie ECU's. We use him because he is very professional, his work is very good and he gives a 1 year warranty on what he does. Of all the ECU's he has done for us, i have only ever had one fail, right at the limit of the warranty and there was no argument or quibbling, he just said, yep, no problem, send it down straight away and he'll sort it.

I think he charges about
