Well after 5 years of subaru ownership, i,ve had to find something cheaper to run. Not sure if any of you know but i now have a daughter who has just turned two. She,s brilliant but also expensive :). My last subaru was a JDM Bugye STI which was great but always had a few problems since i got it and was getting to be a bit expensive to keep since my daughter arrived. I, d also found some rust in a very difficult area to repair and would of cost a fairly large sum to fix properly. It has now to a Belgian enthusiast who paid me a good price so off it went.
I,d looked at DC2,s before i got the bugeye but had to try an sti after my wrx wagon. Just before xmas i was looking through an old copy of Japenese Performance and there was a buying and tuning guide on the DC2. The more i read the more i liked and after working out the running cost decided to start looking for one. Now there are plenty for sale but finding one without rust or having been abused by some chav was getting difficult. Over xmas i emailed loads of classified ads on pistonheads and one stood out from the rest. The owner is in the US army and only used the car when on leave, otherwise it was put into storage. He was on holiday in florida at the time so numerous emails were exchanged until a date for viewing was arranged at the start of January. A trip to norfolk followed and i met one of the biggest honda fans around. His wife owns a DC5 which she trackdays at snetterton on a regular basis as they live around 2 miles away from the circuit. He is currently building a EK9 Civic type r with a K20 engine swap.
The DC2 was really clean, good solid rear arches, nice paintwork, good history and in general good condition. The seats were in amazing condition, no sagging bolsters or nasty signs of wear. The test drive was great, no rattles or bangs from anywhere and the car felt really tight. A deal was done and i drove it home with a new mugen front lip as part of the deal. Theres a few jobs to be done but nothing major, the drivers mirror folds back on its own when driving, the alloys need a refurb, radio doesn,t work and the rocker cover need a tidy up.

Picture taken today just after the alloys got refurbished, a massive improvment. I have the centre caps, but they need to dry properly before refitting. The car is completely standard apart from the honda prelude brake upgrade on the front and has only done 84000 miles.

She looks like a good one Darren, and I'm glad it all worked out well for you :) I truly loved mine (a UK model) and have often pined after it since moving on. I would have another, and probably a JDM one with the rectangular lights.

Look forward to any updates as and when they happen. Oh by the way, the paint is super soft so go careful if you want to machine polish it

Very nice mate, really love the Honda Type Rs.

Need more pics though like of the interior.

You used to have an EK9 also didn't you, how did that compare the Integra ?

More pics to come mate with a small update. I always thought the ek9 was a bit underpowered, there's something about this car that just feels "right".

A few small jobs done today. Replaced the red h badges with new one,s, Fitted a new drivers door mirror and cleaned the PCV valve on the engine which was full of dirt. The car had always idled quite high since I got it, so after some reading on the dc2 forum I have managed to alter the idle speed from 1400 rpm to 900rpm and get the car sounding better.
A new radio arrived today so hopefully will get it working soon. A new rocker cover has been ordered so as soon as it arrives I,ll be fitting that too.
