Thought it was time t share my build thread. appreciate that those that know me will have seen my car anyway, but finally got around to updating a thread on a honda forum and decided i should copy some stuff across

First a short histort of my ownership. So started of with a standard black UK 1999 car.

Started the slippery slope with the following mods.
Full re-bush and spoon engine mounts
ditch the aircon
master cylinder brace
Dixcel front and rear brakes
Numerous track day tyres
Comptech Manifold, de-cat and Twinloop
BC racing coilovers
Image
Baffled sump
H brace
Cobra Bucket and dished steering wheel
Image
and a modest helping of this...

means happy owner. (before coilovers just in case you were thinking a lot of roll.)

Decided a second set of wheels is in order to run stickier tyres on events, and have a bit of tread for the rest of the UK weather.

I think a black and black colour scheme is emerging here.

Engine Bay not very exciting at the moment

The 2011 season started with a lightweight flywheel and new clutch, and as the gearbox needed a rebuild, a 4.9 final drive and US 4 and 5th gear were found to see if some lower ratios would help with the sprinting game.

During the down time a hondata ECU needed a new home, so i obliged and by the time the car was returned to me, it had a mace (well known honda bloke from the US) engine map to go with the new shorter gears. got a print out somewhere but its in the ball park of 170-175 at the wheels.

I have added a few more tweaks so far this year
bonnet pins
RMD racing battery
ABS binned and rear bias valve.

A few up to date pitures

Incidently im running in the new for 2011 modified roadgoing class, which allows most modifications, but basically limits you to full interior and no cage.

2012 Update.
I didn't drive the car much last year or compete, mainly as i was spending a lot of money on bits, and fingers crossed the car will live again next week
First and foremost, I'm not doing the work myself. Mark at Advance Evolution is putting the car together, and i stand around, contribute a bit and make lots of coffee. Its been an after hrs project so its taken a while and had a few hiccups along the way.

all photos are terrible and i will get better ones.

First off the new K20a motor - it did 14k miles in an EP3 before the previous owner strapped a huge turbo on and tried it out before being mapped. It has spent a lot of years sitting waiting for its intended purpose in life, and with new rings and a mild skim is good as new
Image

after looking around at the gearbox options i found a guy selling brand new crate DC5 gearboxes at a very reasonable price so it made sense to spend a bit more rather than go for a second hand / recon box

A few shots of it in the car

Part 2

Once the engine and box were in the car i realised i wasn't going to be happy with the ground clearance. i've seen quite a few of the honda guys with the K20 swap and fair enough they don't have a problem, i live in london and contend with speed bumps and potholes and a variety of roads on a daily basis and plan to do a lot of mileage in the car so personally i had to do something about it. one pace dry sump kit later and now its only the gearbox casing and exhaust manifold that are in danger of a whack.

As I'm going to have to run in the modified class this year, i've gone for a safety devices half cage (still to be welded in

So the car is up and running again with a modest 2013 season behind me now, about 6 events between april and september.

Heres a quick snap of the final engine bay

Once i was up and running it was time for a map. horsham developments isn;t a name that anyones knows in Honda circles, but Jez has been mapping for a long time and i'm more than happy to let him tune my car. After 5 hrs or so this is the final dyne run. i would tend to agree with Jez that his rollers are among the more conservative ones you will find. peak horsepower is the same as i recorded from Surrey rolling road on the old B series setup. however to drive the difference is visceral.

Once up and running i got a digital dash installed - a slight calibration error in this photo Image

I've managed about 6 events this year, gradually getting on top of the new setup and running a full set of soft compound tyres this year. To be totally honest the soft tyres have probably contributed more lap time than the K20 swap, the braking and cornering is laughably good on a proper circuit. Results have been satisfying, i have a regular fight with a couple of flyweight fords, race cars with 20 years of development and circa 800kg curb weights, on 8inch slicks. i'm getting close enough to give them a good run. I am particularly pleased to achieve a personal goal and beat on of the three regular 911GT3's in a fair fight. I was out this weekend and managed to get a half second over this very seasoned regular, and achieve my first top 10 finish. it was a low turn out to be fair.
Image

Without a fluffed gearchange on the final run i recon there was another half second to be found.

Ive got some fairly major work on the house before christmas now, so probably wont be out again this year. Over the winter i'm going for perspex windows and a carbon tailgate to get the weight down. Its tipping the scales at 1080kg at the moment. it would be nice to get own to a tonne, which will take some doing, but had got to be the cheapest way to try and catch the next target - the red 996 GT3 in the mirror, which some of you will know. Great update Jason, and another vote for how awesome DC2's are :D

I miss my old one and seeing this will no doubt start a meaningless hunt on Pistonheads again! Nice to see you catching the odd Gt3 mate ;)

Well done Jason, its been a long time coming, I was very impressed with your pace at North Weald the other weekend, certainly a far better performance than my own!
