Project 182 - "Nigel"

Well i thought i would start a little project thread on the clio 182 i picked up yesturday. Yes i know its not evo, that will have to wait until i can buy a VI like i would realy like and now the rush is off to get sorted for the start of the sprint series due to this trapped nerve thingy in my back:nopity:I thought bugger it i will buy a play thing and do it the way that i`m most comfortable with - the salvage route! My reasons being 1 I know why the car is for sale (its damaged) - its not being passed through the system because its a problem car- (rx8 gerry?) 2 I want to show folks that not all salvage has to be second rate or a cut and shut (Ben:)) 3 to offer a few possible tips on repairing a bit of body damage the d.i.y way without using gaffer tape and a bucket load of filler! 4 The obvious finacial savings:)
So back to the car.... Its a 2004 182 that since picking it up and finding a fist full of service receipts including the original sales receipt which states it had been fitted with the optional cup rear spoiler and cup suspension (bonus!) The strange bit that i am struggling with is what has happened to it exactly? Ordinarily i would have said it has been stolen recovered, But on my system it normaly states "stolen recovered" And things just don`t add up- like if it had been nicked then vanalised why was the interior untouched? And the outer panels have been baseball bat`ed but no glass or lights have been touched- this is a first in my experience of stolen recovered! And lastly the wheels have been nicked and replaced by some renault 14" wheels (that did not fit over the front brakes) complete with wheel trims???? So i`m thinking could this have been a possible insurance scam or had the previous owner (who had had it less than a year- before that it was a lex fleet car) upset someone who trashed his car then disgruntled with his pay out decided to keep the wheels? either way i do know that this car has not been the wrong side of a hedge or been bouncing off other cars or the scenery!
So the plan is to get it up and m.o.t`ed a.s.a.p then v.i.c`ed (yes this car will have to carry substancialy damaged marker even though its not been crashed) then look at sorting the bodywork and having some fun in it!

This is how i collected it and parked up at my normal coffee stop on the A1.

Then when i got up this morning ready change the front wheels so i could actualy get it off the trailer this white stuff started to fall out the sky!

By the time i`d got it off it looked like this....

Thankfuly spending everyday fixing up ordinary clio`s i have a couple of spares cars and one of them is black with a good tailgate, so tomorrows jobs will be pick up correct 182 wheels and possibly a pair of black doors if i can find them and remove said tailgate from scrapper and fit to 182. I have quickly been through it and found everything works as it should including the climate control and the h.i.d lights the only things that don`t work is a side light and number plate bulb!
Will i sprint it? I don`t know yet i am looking forward hopefuly doing an autotest in it!:)

No 3 for me.

"3 to offer a few possible tips on repairing a bit of body damage the d.i.y way without using gaffer tape and a bucket load of filler!"

Well done Russ. Lee did OK in his Clio last year. Give it a go mate.
