My S14a 200sx

I've decided that its about time I do a thread about my car :)

After owning a Fiesta XR2i 16v for 2 years I decided to have a change & get something with a bit of power, I've always been a fan of Skylines but at 20 they were way out of my budget so I started to look around for something similar that was. The 200 ticked all the boxes. :)

Being still in my 'boy racer' faze and doing absolutely no background research on them, I drove to Leicester and picked up my 14a!

Image

As you can see it had a stupid big spoiler on the back & a extremely bad fitting front bumper :puke:

Over the next few years things personally went wrong for me, losing jobs etc. caused the the 200 to become unloved. I also had a prang when I didnt stop quick enough and ended up in the back of my friends ST200 :(

Life straighten out for me & I started to collect items for the car to get it sorted out.

Then my car got reversed into:

To be truthful I wasn't that pissed as it was in a poor state anyway and it help me with some of the bodyshop costs :)

Shortly after she went into the bodyshop.

Standard front bumper & Navan rear spoiler

Now I was pretty please with how she was looking but the standard wheels were letting her down.
I've always like the standard RX8 wheels on a s14a and found a set on ebay with a bit of lacquer flake for

That is gorgeous, and thank god you got rid of the McDonalds car park special rear spoiler. And those wheels look fantastic, good work.

Now that she looked better it was time for me to get some more power out of her!

I decided 1st to buy:

Godspeed ARB's
Brembo rear discs with green stuff pads
Apex 324 brake kit with Ferodo DS2500 pads
Goodridge braided brake lines
Front strut brace
Exedy organic clutch kit
Braided clutch line
Short shifter

So at least it would handle & stop a bit better!

Then for some power!
I bought:
Walboro fuel pump
Apexi Induction Kit
Nur Spec cat back exhaust
De cat pipe
Apex 3' downpipe
Gizzmo MS-IBC boost controller
Apexi S-AFC II
Colder plugs
H-Dev Stage 1a Chip.

So with all these in place she went into APT, I had previously run 225bhp on their dyno a few years back so I was looking forward to the 270-290bhp that the chip is quoted at :)
You can imagine my surprise & disappointment when Gary gets out shaking his head saying its running really lean and making 225bhp!
Gary suspects that the pump has had it as its 2nd hand. 1 month later with a brand new pump we try again......225bhp!
After plenty of searching a confused Gary finally finds a wire which shouldnt be there and causing major havok! This time it comes down to the ECU being shot!
So once again after getting hold of an ECU, Gary fits it and puts my 200 on the rollers...... and gets its straight off again! He smelt fuel and noticed a leak so that had a look at it on the ramps the fuel lines were corroded through. :(

After a 3 week wait for Nissan to get them in & APT to fit them I could finally drive my car again! :)

I booked it back in for a power run & Gizzmo set up this week, was really looking forward to seeing my car run what I finally wanted!
After 3 runs it made 235bhp! As you can probably tell I was gutted to say the least.
After a chat with Gary it looked like my turbo had given up life being the standard unit and done quite a few miles!

So I was left with the option of leave it how it is as its running fine & be happy with the 235bhp or buy a new turbo with risks of blowing the engine....

I got home after drowning some of my sorrows with a Mcdonalds big tasty meal and was looking on the SXOC when I found a guy who was selling a T28r which hadn't done major miles & braided hoses for not major money........I thought f*ck it and decided to but it! :D

Also decided to take his tubular manifold off him as well at the same time as I thought might as well do it at the same time!

So once it has arrived it will be another trip to APT to get it fitted and hopefully see the figures I want!

I'm also now looking at a z32 afm & 555cc injectors to take it to stage 2! :willy_nilly:

Then more than likely a rebuild!:smash:

Looking good. Glad you ditched the bodykit and spoiler for a more subtle approach, i dont think those kits really follow the natural lines of the car at all and look pretty horrible.

I used to have one and loved every second of it, i opted for the Navan spoiler and spats too, goes well with the rear of the car.

Best of luck with it and the development work, very capible cars with the right modifications, id have kept mine had it not been so thirsty.

A fellow member on here also had a black 14A (Rob_b) and also deals in many nissan 200sx related performace parts (gofasterspares) should you require any parts..

Keep us posted on the work.

Thanks, I am more mature than I was when I got it and have learnt from my mistakes! I'm currently making my own Nissan centre caps for them so I can lose the Mazda badges! :)

Excellent write up and the car looks superb. Good to see RX-8s have a use for something :)

You do realise what you're letting yourself in for with all the number chasing? A very slippery slope indeed but good fun. Enjoy :D

Keep us updated :)
