Well as some of you know, I swapped the Impreza:

So then I thought, Liz's Escort that she bought new in 1998 is a little boring. She has no interest in cars whatsoever so..... I need a car for when it rains, or at least when Metcheck says it will. A few brownie points earned when this arrived:

A 54 plate Winning Blue, Mazda RX8. Complete with 1300 Wankel rotary thing of an engine (apparently Mazda forgot to stick any pistons in it but it still goes. Found it rather cheap and it has been, shall we say, not exactly cherished but it goes alright and there’s only a few dings on the bodywork. It’s done a fair few miles, the interior’s OK it says it has 231 PS which means it’s less than 231 BHP. Torque figure is probably cr@p but so what? It has a roof for when it rains.

It has London taxi doors, affectionately known as ‘suicide’ doors:

A fancy stereo noise box to annoy the neighbours:

I’m not renowned for my car cleaning prowess and I’m more interested in trying to blow the dirt off rather than using elbow grease. However, this thing was particularly filthy under the bonnet and made even me cringe at the muck:

The local Kosovan car wash may be OK for the outside but I do baulk at letting them loose with their jet washes on the underbonnet area, the bit where a normal car has an engine. Once again I consulted The Oracle AKA Stuart who suggested copious quantities of WD40.

He’s having me on, I thought. So, armed with a bucket of soapy water I decided that the old ways are the best. I removed the engine covers and gave them a good soaking. The engine bits looked too far gone for conventional cleaning materials so I gave the WD40 a go. What a difference it made. Lots of spraying and scrubbing with a paint brush and then wiping with a mucky rag and the transformation was quite amazing.

And I have to admit to being dead chuffed with the final result:

Hopefully I won't be going either, just need to finalise a few options before hand.
Fingers crossed!
