Clio 1.8 16v project

Hey guys, its been a long long time since ive had something suitable to post on here, but i think i might just have done it now.

Just put a deposit down on an L plate clio 1.8 16v ( just like i used to have when i was but a wee lad of 22 lol )

It needs a bit of work doing to it ( and probably alot more once i start crawling around and underneath it ) but for the price i got it for it seemed like an ideal project to get ready for a summer of trackday and nurburgring action.

I cant claim BHP figures or anything, suffice to say it was 137bhp from the factory, and weighs in at around 900kg, so if my memory of the last one i has is accurate then they are a real lot of fun to drive.

Pics will follow when i go to collect it in a few days, and then more pics of all the bits il have to fix ! ( including the, erm, 'stainless one box exhaust' which looked to me more like a scaffold pole held on with tie straps!)

Hope to catch up with people at events in the summer, even though im a proper newbie at all this stuff.

Cheers
Tim

Sounds like fun Tim

Someone I work with threw his keys at me this morning as he wanted me to 'evaluate' (his words not mine) his latest toy; A six speed 306 GTi with lairy cams, exhaust, induction, big brakes and lowered on coilovers by 60mm :o

I had a 306 back in '96, brand new and this little drive this morning brought all of the memories back.

Keep us posted on yours. It would be good to see a bit of a '90's hot hatch revival :D

Well she has arrived home, pretty uneventful journey home, but upon close inspection it seems a pretty damn solid car chassis wise, no major rust near jacking points on sills, only one section where it has gone through and will need plating out.

Burns no oil, runs at correct temperature and pressure etc... just need to sort the boomy exhaust out and then begin the strip to check in more detail and flush out the coolant and redo the brakes etc.. but im a happy man at the moment.

Not to mention the interior that came with it is mint, reckon i could shift the whole lot on ebay for more than

update number one coming up ( no pics though )

On closer inspection it appears that one of the wheel bolt threads has stripped on the passenger side front hub, so that one is now being replaced from a car thats being stripped on ebay, not cheap, but im guessing a whole lot cheaper than renault new parts!

As for renault themselves, i went in to buy a replacement wheel bolt for said hub, and not only could they not find it on the computer they then only went and gave me the wrong bloody part, for
