Bmw E36 328i sport , Track and road car .

Post by Arron »

Hello all posting up a journal here from another forum so sorry about the massive second post .

ENJOY ,

Hi guys , :D

A few of you may have seen me around on this forum latley , i have been asking many questions and getting many great responses !

So i thought it was time to start a journal to let you all know what i have been up to,

So a week and a half ago i brought a

1996 BMW 328i sport , 97,000 , full(ish) service history , not bad condition and e/w, e/s , c/l , metalic paint ,1/2 leather, air con .. . . etc

to be honest i knew nothing about these cars as will be shown later

so here is a few pics of the day i brought it ,

THE ORIGINAL ADVERT

Image

phew thats allot of pictures

Right so the next day as you do gave it a good old clean and a polish i am not into the detailing thing so just a wash and some autoglym super resin polish for me .

and the somewhat disapointing result ,

Image

Image

Image

a picture of how some idiot has spray painted the grill on the car so they also got the fan aswell , what is rong witht the black grille  idot ! so now i need to source a new one of those . #

Image

GREAT

NEXT . . . . .

Hurd the niskali tale and what a tale and after some searching i found this ?

Image

Image

yup thats right i have the niskali engine .

At first i was gutted but just after much persuading thought well if it has done 97.000 and its still going it aint gonna give up the ghost now is it !

SO on with the mods .

So a few days later after being very disapoint with the cars paint finish i decided to get a full respray bar the roof ! done by a good friend of mine who owns a body shop, this was set to be done this week however due to it being a cash (mate) deal he got busy i got pushed back a few weeks but hey ho , its worth the wait , i hope it seems a little extream but when you look at the car there is a scratch and a mark on nearlly every pannel and the easiest option was to get a respray , (same colour) , so yes thats on the way ,

NEXT . . . .

The plan witht the car is to make it look standard is but make it go like stink so out came the mobile and a short call later this arrived in the post thanks to alpina57...

Image

Image

Image

big throtel body manifold conversion righness , so thats i a box waited to be fitted in the next few days i hope when i get around to it ,

next on the list wheels as mine are as flakey as err well errm , a flake lol 8)

maybe some type 3's but something not to mad as the odd track visit has been known , and also to fit the manifold conversion, replce pollen filter , source a front spliter , and for now that will do before the respray then cams etc etc

Hope you enjoyed the story so far guys i will try to keep you as informed as posible with progress

next ....

Right hello again all , thought i would come and give y ou a few updates about what has been happening over the last few days , so here goes . . .

Well i had the manifiold and bbtb to fit (aplina..kit) so i thought after putting it of with fear of not being able to do it i would get around to it , it was not acctually that bad tbh , the instructions were very clear but i could not have done it without the support of IAN on the telephone , unlike most (if not all ) other who have fitted this kit rather than just fir the manifold and leave the fact that the injector cover does not fit around the manifold (which imo looks crappy) or some people dremel the slots out to make it fit !..

I tried this but i found i could not get a decent cut out i could get it to fit ok but getting it to look "FACTORY" was difficult so after an hour or so of trying i decided to just cut the whole lot off and make a straig edge along the recess that is already in the injector cover looks alot better and more factory i think see for your seves here is the finished article with the bbtb and manifold fitted.

Opinions welcome ?.

Next . . . .

As with all cars most people have a direction if you will that they would like the car to go in , as i am 19 only i can not afford to insure an m3 i have tried buying it is not the problem insuring it is!!!1 anyway so i decided means the 328i SPORT already has the M tech bumpers and running strips i would try to follow the M3 route , so on monday i went to meet REDM3 to get some m3 wheels and some genuine mirrors sadly unbenone to him the wheels did not work out which was a shame as they were lovley but one was bent :(

but i still came away with these though . . . .

Image

Image

and trial fitted dont worry they came straight back off loool

Image

so i have taken them off for now and they will be fitted when the car has its respray which has been delayed agin thanks to the painters floor not being ready in time all thanks to the builders !!! aaaarrrrrrrrhhhhh  never mind all in good time

So next . . . .

I sourced a set of chromline desighns HID's fitted them with very little effort and they look like this

Image

Image

i know they look crap agianst the yellow side lights so back on the phone i got to ben and ordered a set of gen 5 angel eyes which will be fitted on sundsay with delensed headlights !!! which should make it look alot better indeed . will update soon

Then on wednesday 22nd of july i got BACK on the phone to ben at chrome line to talk about lowering options afetr much deliberation i decided to go for the eibach pro kit which is more of a performance spring set up over the street which is lower (too low imo) and more for asthetics so i was told . so they should be here on thursday the 24th and i should have them fitted on thursday to which should make the car look all together better but more impotantly handel better which is what this project is all about . . . . thanks for reading update soon hopefully friday with the pictures of here slammed

cheers guys

next . . . .

Hello again only me !

right my car is in the garage having the following fitted

SUSPENSION

- Full set of power flex bushes
- New wishbones ( E30 ones )
- New drop links Front and rear
- New rear top mounts E46 with Z3 reinforcment plates
- New EIBACH PRO lowering kit
- New rear dampers ( GENUINE )

BRAKES

- E36 M3 brakes 315mm x 28mm, discs and calipers , with new discs !
- Uprated brake fluid when i order it !! need to get on that .- braided lines

I think that is everything in the suspension set up bar the dampers up front but until they fail i am leaving them as they may be pricey and when they do go i will be going for coilovers !
(if i have missed something please let me know )

Basically the whole idea is so that when it comes out it handels and brakes really well i hope , the point of the car is to be quick and having done some engine tunning i decided to address the handeling and brake set up , so thought the above was a step in the right direction !

next . . . . .

Right car finally back from the garage now then guys sorry for the updates with no pictures ,

Well lots has gone on latley check it out

Got the car back after having the following done

SUSPENSION

- Full set of power flex bushes
- New wishbones ( E30 ones )
- New drop links Front and rear
- New rear top mounts E46 with Z3 reinforcment plates
- New EIBACH PRO lowering kit
- New rear dampers ( GENUINE )

BRAKES

- E36 M3 brakes 315mm x 28mm, discs and calipers , with new discs !
- Uprated brake fluid
- braided lines brakes

Other things

-2 x CG locks fitted (great little things )
- Vaders Brought and fitted with door cards
- Braided clutch lines
- CDV removed (nice little diffrence made .

PICTURES

Image

Image

new drop links ready to be fitted

Image

Image

Braided lines

Some pictures of the car all lowered

Image

Image

Image

A little lower than i expected it to be

Here are some very bad ish pictures of the new brakes , i will get better pictures soon

Image

Image

The brakes are amazing and with the new fluid and the uprated (braided)lines they are amazing i really like them they were a weak point of the car before but now all sorted

Sadlly i dont have any pictures of the polly bushes but i am sure you know what they look like lol a full set was ordered and fitted including the off set lolipop bushes with the new E30 wishbones .

Now the interior Picked this up yesterday

and here it is fitted - with the whole car hovered (inside obviouslly) lol

Image

Image

Image

Image

All in all i am very happy with the way the car handels , i have had the tracking done 4 wheel laser alighned and am running -2.5 degree camber on the front and -2 degree camber on the rear with o toe on the front and 0.20 toe on the rear and it handels really well

The only thing i will say is with the polly bushs fitted the road noise is greatlly increased but hey i can live with that ,
The cg locks are brilliant and a real asset for anyone wanting to get the most from there car imo

And finally the interior is very clean and feels great will be better for track days as it is not leather like my old one , which is why i brought it .

All opinions and comments welcome .]

Thanks guys

Few people been asking me about the clutch delay valve modification via pm and how to do it so i thought i would put up a guide to use .

I've read a lot about the removal of the "CDV" and why it is nasty - it deliberately slows the release of the clutch.
This gives a smoother "bite" and makes us all a better changer! I've managed without one for years on many cars, and don't need any help thankyou BMW!!
It allows / causes slipping of the clutch slightly on every gear change - at the expense of all that extra clutch wear adding up over time!

Anyways this is what I did - Job time 30min...

Verdict - clutch bite feels the same, but the revs don't hang around mid shift / no clutch slip (probably not noticeable on the smaller engine / less torque models), and if you want to change very quickly, you can! - do it!

next . . . . .

Nice write up. Knowing nothing about BMs I looked for Nikasil:

I thought the US E36 M3 was a very watered down 3.0 that only made 240bhp. Is it known that those cams make power on the 328?

It'll look gay with M3 mirrors on. Be proud of owning a 328, they are good cars and do need to be defaced by pretending to look "M3" from a distance.

Exactly why my M3 mirrors were never fitted as the shell is not an M one, even though there is no difference.

Arron, don't take any criticism too harshly. The forum is built on avoiding bullshit and this no nonsense approach is something that has done us proud so far.

I am not suggesting that you are telling porkies but if you have the dyno sheets, that will shut anyone up that doubts what you're saying :)

We have a few people with e36's; shared knowlege is the way forwards :thumb: (Unless I'm racing against you, in which case I'm not telling you shit :D )

Don't be upset if Arron doesn't reply. He has limited internet access

Right !,

to all the doubters , the engine will be here soon i have brought it and am waiting for it to be delivered , it made 231 bhp with a bbtb , larger intake manifold , and underdrive pulleys , this was WITHOUT the cams fitted .

When the engine gets here so will all the history and the DYNO plots showing this and as soon as they arrive i will post them up i have nothing to hide , NOTHING

So all i can say is watch this space .

Also please note once the engine is in i will be having the car dynoed and then we will see what increases the cams have made hoping for 10 bhp for the cams ?

Thanks all

And relax i am honest and not a bullshitter just do not have the history / engine yet .

thanks

Arron,

Chill. There are no doubters, it is just the rules to make this particular forum one of the best available - no bragging unless there's proof - simple.

PS It's bought your engine, not brought your engine ;)
