Gave up with the turbo, for various reasons, one of them being that it would put me into a silly category in Sprint competitions.

First stage of the developement:
Stock SR20DE.
Head gasflowed by Ben@Angelworks, skimmed 1.5mm to get the compression a little over 11.5:1
Solid lash adjusters.
Ferrera double valve springs.
Throttle bodies.
Fidanza flywheel with ACT 6 paddle clutch.
Z32 gearbox with ally prop.
VEMS v3.4 ECU running AlphaN fuelling and ignition
MSD EDIS4 coil pack.
Second stage:
Change Z32 'box back to stock type.
Proper exhuast manifold.
300deg duration ProCar cam from my new mate in South Africa.
Glass fibre doors, bonnet, boot, front wings.
Lexan replacement glass.
Driver weight reduction plan.

Sounds good Bob - what do you reckon the power potential is without the turbo?

Looks good Bob. Should be able to sell the Z32 for a fair few

I think around 250bhp is acheivable on the SR20DE. I know a guy who builds them for Tommy Kairas.

With things as they stand I should make 170 to 180bhp, exhaust and cams should take me up to the 200bhp mark.
One of the blokes on the VEMS forum has achived ~150whp without any significant modifications, so the initial gains seem to be sensible. The machinist at Mass Race Engines made 172bhp on his Sunny GTi with similar headwork and marginally less compression.
The engine I'll build after that (high compression pistons, steel rods, profiled crank, 320deg duration high-lift cams) will get me into the mid 200's but then its laws of deminishing returns (isnt it always?) the bloke in South Africa reckons that the engines he built for Nismo in SA produced ~280bhp and he's happy to sell me all the stuff I need to get that, and at SA prices you cant beat that for a deal, the ITB kit cost me just under 500quid... :-D

Nice, does he have any recommendations for exhaust manifolds? I see a few in Japan, but most are for FWD cars.

Its a point I've considered, the bloke in South Africa
http://www.martinbruwer.com/ has sent me the diameters and lengths of the manifold that he'd made with his cams, so I've got some info on what needs doing, its just that the Japanese stuff is tried and tested and known to fit perfectly everytime.
