mk1 golf gti

Post by Tk »

well a few of you know i recently purchased a mk1 golf gti , so thought i would start a project thread as it will be on track one day and possibly with the wife behind the wheel

car is a 1.8 non sunroof but sadly it was fitted with a glass roof many years ago, paintwork is all original but keyscratched and odd little dent here and there so this will be sorted out soon with a full respray, shame really as there is very little rust,
car had been of the road for about 3 years before i picked it up due to a high idle and a non existent clutch
this was sorted before i even drove it home from herts , both simple adjustments of idle screw and wound the clutch cable adjuster  the guys face was a picture , he did not have a clue about anything mechanical and openly admited it .
a couple of pics after i got it back to colchester and a tcut and polish

put it in for an mot without doing anything and it flew through without even an advisory

picked up a set of bbs rims from an E30 and tried them today, and also ordered a set of new 195 45 15 wellys that will be turning up next week as the current ones are 55 profile

also picked up some original vag vdo gauges 'oil / water temp and volts' that have been popped in and just need wiring up

i had plans to keep this as standard as possible but already thinking about a supercharged g60 conversion, coilovers and obviously brakes, i think they weigh about 850 kg's so a pulley'd g60 putting out about 200hp should be quite entertaining

more to come :-D
Small one's are more juicy

Very nice looking Mk1 8)

Redders has a g60 powered Mk1 may be worth having a chat with him if that is the route you plan to take it! 8)

i love mk1's, but i would have one as a bit of a show car. lowerd on its arse with some very wide 13" polished rim wheels. maybe one day i will own one.
