I'm at the limit!!.........

Morning all,

A while back as some of you know my poor old wagon had a heart attack and died due to bottom end failure. It's been sat in my garage now for a couple of months gathering dust and looking very sorry for itself :(

Well no more :D

I have just this morning purchased a low mileage Redtop MY04 STi8 engine with all ancilliaries to include:

ECU, Wiring Loom, VF35 Turbo, MY07 Intercooler and new Cambelt. It's almost ready to bolt in!!
To add to this i will be purchasing the obligatory Walbro 255 fuel pump and guaged fuel pressure regulator, Prodrive BCS (care of Duncan), GT Spec Exhaust headers, High Flow catted downpipe and decat center section. It will of course get an oil change (Millers 10W/60), new oil filter (OEM), and set of spark plugs (NGK Platinum or Iridium - yet to decide).

The car will have to be stripped of all it's interior bits including dashboardand plasitcs, door cards etc..., and exterior underboy plastic bits for rewiring purposes, which will probably be the hardest and most laborious bit of all to do as i don't want to plug anything in the wrong way and it would be nice for it all to work first time. With a bit of luck i will be able to limp up to my local Subaru stealership on the WRX ECU to get the the immobilser fob sync'd up to the new ECU. Once that is done i'll get my laptop plugged in and start remapping. :D

I will have to be careful with the gearbox as that is currently the achillies heal in this whole project so it'll be easy on the full bore standing starts or 3rd gear WOT runs (for logging purposes of course and only on private roads) ;) It will have to do till i can afford to get a full PPG gearset.

I am pretty excited about the whole thing and hope it will live up to my expections which are fairly high but sensible, and safely within the limits of the above set up. I am hoping to generate 330/320 - 350/330 which will be the limit of my gearbox so fingers crossed.

I will keep this thread updated with plenty of photos and mad ramblings as i go along.

At long last!! :internal organs relaxing: :thumb:

Great news Francis, can't wait to see how the project progresses. Are you planning to upgrade the suspension/brake side of things as well??

Good news - make sure you add a wideband to the list as the factory O2 sensor is not accurate enough to rely on it for mapping. (oh and Det Cans if you havent got them already) Hopefully that will stop det ruining big ends again :thumb:

Hi George,

My brakes are good for now. I've got EBC slotted and grooved rotors with YellowStuff pads all round so it stops pretty well. Maybe at some stage i'll find a Performance Friction or K-Sport big brake kit that fits under 17's without spacers when i've got the funds. When it's all done a track day will be on the cards and we'll find out for sure :D

I'll keep the std suspension on it for now. It's got front and rear uprated Whiteline and Powerflex ARB drop links which took the edge off the rear squatting on take off and reduced roll a fair bit. If i find a set of Prodrive or Eiback springs going cheap and i have the funds i'll probably do that for now with decent dampers further down the line. Again a track day will sort the answer to that one :thumb:

--------

Duncan, i've definately got that on the list of things to get so as soon as i can get one at the right price i'm there. It may be i have some room in the current budget to get one straight away....we'll see

I've seen what looks like some very effective ceramic coating for my headers and exhaust system rather than get them wrapped.

http://www.racestuff.co.uk/www.racestuf ... h=&sought=

I think i might get some and coat all my new bits when they arrive to include the Turbo. I like the look of the black satin coating.

Looking at this stuff i reckon you can more or less use it on any bits that are subjected to extreme heat like brake claipers, backs of pads, brake piston face, rotors etc....

I imagine if you coated your intercooler with this stuff it would not only keep the cool air in but keep the heat out.

worth investigating i think :D

But if you insulate your intercooler you won't get any cool air to keep in because it'll stop being an intercooler. The clue is in the name :D

I can't help it if my ideas are so far out of the box it defies logic itself

OK...forget that one :D

Parts and tools arriving now :D

So Far arrived.....

STI8 Engine + Ancilliaries - Came today on a pallet :D
2Ton Engine hoist
450Kg Load Leveler
450Kg Engine Stand
Sytec 255lph Fuel Pump
Adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator (with Gauge)
Intercooler Cooling Panel
78 LED Codless Inspection lamp
5L Millers CFS 10W60
Genuine STi Pink Oil Filter

Still Waiting on.....

GT Spec GenII Headers
Catted 3" Downpipe
3" Center Pipe
All Exhasut Gaskets
Prodrive BCS
NGK Iridium Sparkplugs
Snap-On Double Ended Rachet Ring Spanners
Combination Ring/Open Ended Rachet Spanners
Standard length Combination Ring/Open Ended Flexible Head Rachet Spanners

....and that's about it i think

Next job in the list is assemble said engine crane and engine stand ready for knackered engine extraction duties and yank the old lump out. I'm not sure what to do with my old engine. Either break it and sell the bits off or try and sell it on as a whole unit in need of a new set of end shells and pistons. The bores will need re-honing as it was suffering from piston slap but the top end is absolutely fine. I'll also have an ECU and wiring loom to sell on so i think Ebay may be the best place for that lot. Any suggestions on the engine selling is appreciated.
