Janspeed Sierra - Problems solved

Some of you will be aware of the over heating problems that have dogged us for many months. After our last track day at Donnington with Stuart things were alot better. The car still got hot at times but by doing a couple of easy laps the temperature would drop back down. This was the first time that we were able to have some control over the temperature.
So... What was the problem??

1. Head not torqued down tight enough
2. Head was warped
3. Radiator blocked
4. Wrong spark plugs
5. Weak plug leads
6. 7th injector was over fueling one bank of the engine

The final thing was picked up by Fitz at Topboss when he listened to the engine for about 10 secs.

7. The tappets were too tight.

Fitz then re set them and as was setting them he pointed out that they had been set wrong and that the exhaust valves were not opening properly which meant that at full tilt the exhaust gasses were not escaping and this was what was causing the engine to run hot. He pointed out that we were extremely lucky as we could have blown the engine :o

We have also repositioned the 7th injector to inject into the cold air intake before entering the plenium.

We took the car for a test recently and the results are good.
1. The car felt quick
2. She happily revved past 5500 rpm, red line is 6100
3. She sounded smoother with a nice whistle from the turbo
4. The temperature went up to just below half way and stayed there :grin:
5. The water level in the expansion tank DID NOT MOVE :-D

Finally got it all together with just 3 weeks till our first visit to the Nurburg ring.

What a steep learning curve this has been. Now it's time to push this engine further so in September i am going to have the boost turned up and the 7th injector mapped to cover more of the rev range.

Why wait till september...... This is our current schedule

27th - 30th july Nurburg Cannonball
5th August Ford Fair at Silverstone
19th August RS National day at Rockingham
22nd August BP Drift night
2nd September Trax at Silverstone

Great that you've got it sorted before the 'ring trip. Have to say that new spoiler looks quite good, looking like a proper race car now :D

YOUR GOING TO DO WHAT TO THE BOOST :o

please run this past me as im the one who has to fix the car thank you :lol:

it took 4 hours to fit that rear spoiler in the rain and had to cut up a spare lower
spoiler to fit round the mounting at the bottom. in the photo you can just about
tell that the bottom one is gray but had it off this week and its now a
lovely metallic black.

I knew you would get there in the end :D

With ref to the ring, have you checked that you will be allowed on with that spoiler?

Whats wrong with the spoiler?

thats a good question how do i go about finding out if there allowed or not?
had no problems with it on the car so far BUT if it needs to come of then
so be it only 4bolts holding it on.

I am unsure on the rules, but dont some cars have to remove spoilers if they are not std fitment and/or TUV approved or is that german registered vehicles only?

Might ask the question on NL to get a valid answer.

Bart....'Trust me', the engine will cope with more boost and besides it not as if we dont have a spare :)

Dynamix...If there is any question about the rear wing we will simply remove it, tape over the small gaps in the standard spoiler and get a higher top speed down the straights :-D

It's the same with the front splitter that Alan made it can be easliy removed, should it get damaged, without preventing us from going back out on track.

German only Dunk (99.9% sure)

I didnt want to throws stones in on it just pointing out something that was at the back of my mind. I am sure it wont be a problem but even if they do get picky

Stu - why is it that the Ringhaus golf cant run the roof spoiler on Tourist days?
