New project

Post by jazzymonkey »

Oops, done it again. Got a new toy, this one is going to be totally stripped for the track. So i will have to think about how to get it to and from the track.

Its a Sierra XR4X4

Its a bit rough around the edges but should be good fun.

Its also got this under the bonnet.

Drove it back from Colchester today after having it MOT'd, failed on a few things but nothing major to worry about.

Great work :thumb:

Mine only packs the normal 2.9 lump and with suitable modifications and commitment it is quick enough for serious fun. If I can be of any help on the track preperation in terms of what to strip and saving time and money, give me a shout. If you need any mechanical help Pablo and Bart are your guys :D

Nice one, thank you. Initial plans are strip it completely apart from the dash top. fit my buckets and harnesses, get some bigger wheels 17's.
It has nearly brand new 15in wolfrace wheels and budget tyres which will be on ebay soon.
Then take it to a track and see how it gets on. Then :- suspension and brakes.
A sort of rolling project.
Have you got any pics of yours?

Any reason you're slapping bigger wheels on? Apart from the looks of course.

My opinion would be that you can get a massive amount of grip from the original 15" tyres, albeit better types, and you will save a bomb too. If you were going for massive brakes straight away then I could understand going bigger. It's your project and your call. I'll look forward to following this with great interest.

Looks good, thats given me a few ideas. So stick to 15's i thought it would be the usual reduce the rubber to get more grip. I must say thinking back, i had an A reg XR4i Turbo technics quite a few years ago and that had 16in cossie wheels on and that caused me no drama.
I think there will be a pile of parts outside my garage tomorrow.

Are you keeping this road legal? If not you should be able to get it down to about 1100 kgs easily enough, from a starting point of 1400+. If you really go for it you can get it down to 1010kgs with a bit of fuel in it :thumb:

I think this one will not be road legal, totally stripped. My BMW had quite a few creature comforts which were un nessesary. Next thing would be to make good friends with a trailer mate or save up and source a trailer and tow vehicle. I am going to try and keep the buget to a minimum for this one, so i will be searching ebay constantly for bargains.

I think personally a 535i sport would be ideal for your needs.

I think any car has potential, as long as there are plenty of spares available and there are tuning products available, suspension etc. I suppose its all down to budget.
