Cheers guys.

I dont have a undertray, I wish I did TBH as the engine bay is filthy as.Gareth, if you can keep yours.... I might look into getting one for mine at some point, I believe they help with cooling as well.

Good idea Gareth! I blocked it up this morning so when I come to working on it tonight its safe!

I made up some templates for the ducting yesterday, seems fairly straight foward so far...

Big thing for me at the moment is sorting out the power steering cooler, Chris dont suppose you have got any pictures of how yours is fitted? Basically when I was at Marham I ended up on the grass and it pulled the cooler underneath the rad and bent the PS cooler. I bent it back on the day and cable tied it up. This was only a temporary solution, I now need to make good or get a new PS cooler.

Oh, one question I was gonna ask people is some of the engine bay has got wax on it. I presume from that waxol spray you can get. What can I use to get this off?

Several things will remove chassis wax Dom. If you use a solvent based product to clean it, they usually work quite well but I've seen people use everything from thinners to fuel, degreasers take your pick.

If you take some photos and post them up it will help me and others advise you further.

I have seen with the Knightsports on they fit spacers on the undertray bolts.

But yep taking the part thats rivetted on will certainly help as its designed for the rad the other way round. Just depends how far down your rad sits mate.

Had a bit of a mixed day today and I am looking for some advice. Basically I found out that the pictures that apparently showed my cars compression tests the car in the background was not mine! Spoke to the guy I bought the car off and he said that they were using this other cars battery and my car was next to it and you couldnt see it in the pictures. So I thought to settle things I should get a compression test done. Got one done today and the readings are good (mid to high 7's) but not quite as good when the car was last tested (was mid to high 8's) but all in all I will take it :-)

Now the shit part, one of the spark plugs looks like its been cross threaded when it was put in which is obviously bad news. I have done some reading online and I have read about 'thread chasers' which can be used to clean up the thread in the housing rather than cutting more away like a tap or die. I have had not experience of this and I really could do wtih some advice!

I can take pictures of the spark plug if that would help? I have left the car as is for now as I dont want to make anything worse....

Mid to high 7's is still pretty good mate for compression (from what I've read) but still a shame that you bought it an a different understanding. No idea about the cross thread thing but I seem to remember it wasn't the end of the world when I had my R32 GTR......good luck mate.

Yeah it is :) I didnt pay over the odds for the car thinking it had high compression just wish people were honest, oh well.

Yeah I think if I deal with this right I will hopefully be ok. But from the reading I have done I can make a right balls up as well! The quest continues....

Hmm, the photo stuff sounds a bit odd mate but then thats unfortunately the risk you take when buying secondhand isnt it :(

Do you definitely know its cross threaded ? If I am perfectly honest I wouldnt be trying to fix that yourself in case of doing more damage. Worth a post on FDUK mate as you cant be the only person with that problem or post it on rx7club.com if you want to remain anonymous....just dont pick the same username you have here ;)

Agree with Stu though, 7.5s is still pretty good mate but to be honest from the years I have been on the Rex forum even the ones that are treated with the uttermost care sometimes need rebuilding sooner than people think. All sorts of factors can cause this and it could be anything from oil, mapping, coolant stuff etc etc.

Chin up though mate, these things can always be fixed.

Yeah mate you're right buyer beware and all that TBH. To be fair because the results are in the same ball park there may have been nothing underhand going on so I am, going to put this behind me and crack on getting it fixed.

I wacked a post up on FDUK, I have taken a picture of the spark plug in question...

Image

It looks cross threaded to me but I dont have a huge amount of experience in this...

Silly question but have you tried putting a new one in there and seeing what happens ?
