I spent a tiny fraction of what you've spent on my old scoob, but they get under your skin, being as responsive and soulful as they are.
That's why it so painful when they shit themselves.

All because you're taking a break no need to be a stranger. I know that I couldn't use our car everyday. The more we improve them for track work the less livable they become everyday.

Sorry to hear this jon but i think everyone thats owned a scoob in what ever state of tune have had a love hate relationship with them.

I still miss mine but don't miss the big bills anymore.

Gutted, as said above, I miss the GTR, but I don't miss the worry that if it goes wrong I'll need to remortgage, driving the 'cheap' runabout is giving me as much pleasure as I don't really care if something falls off ... I just enjoy the heated seats on my little botty.

There is something to be said about cheap cars - if you've had an expensive / modified car then a cheap car really does feel like good value.

I have to agree also although my Rex is in my garage with a layer of dust and dirt, fishing parts and boxes with bits in all over it I do miss the blasts from time to time in it especially with mates from here.

But driving the Polo I have now is so much better, its brings back the actual fun of driving without the fear of breaking bits or temps etc etc.

Fair play Jon for not selling it .You will come across the parts you require in time they always turn up at the right price if you are not in a rush .

Keep it locked away for a few years then you can have your very own " barn find"

With the best will in the world cheap cars (daily shitters ) only serve the purpose of getting you from A to B they do not give you that feeling you get from owning / driving something special imo .

I actually drove over a speed hump today in the Astra without the fear of smashing the sump to smithereens and for the first time in ages could even hear the radio above the turbo, induction and exhaust noise + had the added bonus of not having some spotty Herbert in a chaved up Corsa, Saxo, etc etc trying to race me. Love it

Oh Jon.......what a shame. I totally sympathise for your predicament, it's never easy and the slippery slope of saying 'enough is enough' gets more difficult to avoid the deeper you're committed. (I remember it well and on more than one occasion) I am sure that you will discover simple pleasures in things that you never thought possible in driving a cheap and economical daily. As you rightly say, you have a mind blowingly fast bike when you need it. I also happen to think that keeping the car locked up for a while is a great idea as it will save you doing something impulsive that you regret later on.
