Apparently there is an MD321M now too which sits halfway between the H and the T. That could be interesting if it spools quickly and keeps going to the top of my useable rev range.

I have always felt that the T was a tad overspecced for my engine seeing as it redlines at 6900 whereas the T wants to keep going at this point. Something a touch smaller would be perfect for happy side of 400 but playing to the engines strengths.

Prodrive 3 Port Solenoid

Post by duncan »

Got one of these from the states (for some reason prodrive dont sell them in the uk). This is sold with a plug and play harness and connects directly to the existing wiring without having to cut and splice as with other 3 ports. $120 shipped.

Supposedly they give better boost control as the wastegate is isolated from the solenoid until it needs to open. It can also help retain boost higher up the rev range and assist in spooling the turbo.

Some tuners fit these as a matter of course charging around

I am just working through the list of things that the Subaru community recites as things you 'have' to do to see whether it is really a benefit.

Plus I cant afford to throw any proper money at it at the moment for what it really needs to take it up a significant step above 400 bhp (ie bigger turbo, FMIC and pistons) - this is keeping me occupied and teaching me at the same time :D

Nice update, any idea why Prodrive don't sell the solenoid in the UK?

no idea George - they do stock it as it is what is fitted to th WR1 as std.

First tests show ............. f all difference except WGDC is quite a bit lower to acheive the same boost. More investigation needed I think.

More investigation and ....

Top end boost is exactly the same as before
Spool up is identical

Only benefit I can see is that it uses less wgdc to get the same results but apart from that (in fact even with that) I fail to see why people fit them.

Maybe I have missed something.... :?
