Pez, I've not given up on the idea of the kit kats yet bud.
Stu, it is great service but I think it would be fairer to say it goes some way to restoring my faith in AP. But yes I can't fault this, they've been very good. I think a parachute would be a good option, and no-one has yet committed that "x" pads will give you the same stopping as the portys so I fear I may be in for reduced performance if I don't want to kill the discs.
Malc, agreed. Indeed AP did say that race teams who have brake "budgets" don't mind the cracking and hazing, others do. Matching is one way of looking at it, another is why can't APs "best" discs (in this size etc etc) handle what a Porterfield can dish out? I don't know the answer to that and it may be an unreasonable question but I still struggle with it a bit. At the end of the day I'm neither a race team, or a race car, or in a race.
Gedge, no bud, tend not to put the handbrake on after a stint on track! But anyway this is the fronts so is from heat remaining in the pads soaking through, not contact.

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
it's been a bit quiet on the GTR front recently. Been very busy at work which has made it difficult for me to get some small but necessary jobs done since the brakes have gone back on. Aiming to fix that this week. Also trying and failing to buy my "classic" car took up some time.
Since the alignment needs doing AGAIN due to the front camber arm working loose I decided to buy some new rears as they were seized, limiting the neg available to me. This hadn't been a problem but last time out I thought it was wearing the tyres a little far over so going to wind some more on. Had to ensure they'd take the expensive rose joints I bought and the DW ones do so they're waiting to go on and the Cuscos in the bin.
Apart from that I've not used the car, but this vid is on GTR.co.uk from the sprint I did a while ago - those R35s really are rapid...

Nice little vid that and your car looks so planted and stable
Ok, i'm probably going to get slated here but whats new. The more videos I see of R35's the less impressed I am. Don't get me wrong I think they are awesomely quick and an awesome piece of technical engineering (By Nissan). I mean, have you seen the programme of how each car is built.
For me now, seeing them in club motorsport somehow makes them nothing more than a benchmark to apprieciate just how quick and how much work has gone into the older cars.

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
cheers Pabs, apart from the BP autotest a couple of years ago its the only external footage I have of the GTR, pleased with how it looks and sounds from the outside.
I kind of see your point although am still of the opinion that the 35s are very cool. Similarly, the fastest cars there were all packing over 900bhp so plenty of time and effort put into them too. I still used these cars as something to judge mine against though as you say and was pleased to beat all but the top 3 which were seriously modified in my 21 year old one

Pabs
Go out in an R35 and prepare to have your opinion smashed into fine powder. They are simply astonishing cars and defy physics in my opinion.
Lovely video Monster. Sounds and looks as good as it goes

Well done Christian.
On the R35's, I drove one around Silverstone the other week and loved it. If I had a £50K budget I would definitely buy one.

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
I agree they are an astonishing car. I just feel though that when people buy them and use them for club class motorsport i'm more impressed with the 20yr old car that can beat it, as it helps you to appreciate just how quick the older tuned car is.
Time Attack Snetterton this year there were 2 R35s entered in club class 4WD and they finished 5th and 7th.
So what was your first thought?
Mine was
'Feck me those club class cars are quick'
Not
'Feck me those R35s are quick'
The R35 is the benchmark by which to judge how quick a car is, even more so than a stop watch.
Sorry for the thread hijack

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
ha, no problem pabs.
They are awesome, although I'm not so sure in standard form, was bit disappointed with the urge if i'm honest. However, I drove an 800 odd horsepower whifbitz tuned car while Darren messed about with the map and was astonished. We had to do a full revs run in third to get a log and it was absolutely torrenting down with rain, standing water everywhere and really not the place to be doing it. How it put the power down I will just never know but with the obvious bits of spin, grab and aquaplaning it did, and fuck me did it go too. mega

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
Been even quieter on the GTR front (annoyingly as for the second summer running play seemed to stop around July).
However, the alignment has been done again, and tweaked with more camber front and rear as it seemed to be rolling the tyres over a smidge too much last time out. And the bonus being the Wheels in Motion didn't charge me as there was a chance that they hadn't tightened the front camber arm up enough. Absolutely can't say fairer than that, esp as I changed all my rear arms anyway so was a full 4 wheel align jobby.
I wasn't going to bother as I didn't really enjoy the last one anywhere near as much as I'd hoped, but I'm 90% going to do the Snett round of the GTROC sprint series on sunday, even though it is on the 100 which looks pretty boring, although I've never driven it of course.
I wont however be launching the car after last times little debacle so not expecting great things (he says until he sees an opportunity to move up a place or two and lunches the new gearbox
But I'm hoping to get a few track days in before the end of the year if anyone fancies coming out to play?

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
Thoght it was the MLRSS this weekend at Snetterton. Have fun and don't look at the times till the end of the day, may help to resist launching the car
