Ha, I always intend too and then can't be arsed. I've got one of the TX box exploding at the sprint, and some of the wet last week.
However, I have no youtube account - does that matter?
I also have absolutely no inclination to edit the vid into a nice bite size chunk - mainly because I've never done it so can't really be arsed. I really ought to give it a go and just get a youtube account
Project GTR (zed replacement)
Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
Great write up and report. You're a bravior man than me staying out in those conditions. What tyres were you running in those monsoon conditions.

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
Got my Brakes back.
Prior to them sending them back to me I also had a lot of communication via email with AP, containing all sorts of data and measurements that I had limited understanding of and would probably be a bore here. However, the long and short of it was that both discs had high spots which were consistent with heat from pads when not moving.
Apparently the Portefields are a sintered pad (I haven't got the emails to check now I'm writing this) and are renowned for this, where despite cool down laps etc they still hold enough heat when parked up to warp the discs.
So they skimmed the discs and re faced the pads for me and sent them back free of charge - which I think was excellent service by AP and I was very pleased.
They also said that the heat hazing on my discs (which have only been used 5 times) was excessive and again likely caused by my pads - they don't have data for the porterfields but said they are of they type that are very hard on discs. The hazing, or cracking, is not good (I thought it was just what happened so wasn't too worried) and is indicative of the discs having been run at in excess of 700 Celsius at which point the material starts to crack.
So they've recommended some pads along with a man to speak to (who ironically I already have spoken to and was going to get his recommendation if my portys were delayed). They've also advised me on mods to my brake ducting, to help keep the temps down.
So, it looks like once the brakes are back on the car (Saturday) I'll be shopping for new pads = annoying when I've just thrown over £300 at a new set, but cheaper long term than fucking up the discs..
Anyway, a good result, I have straight brakes again and some really good advice and analysis from the guys at AP Racing

Something positive at last....
So does this mean you're not considering switching to Kit Kat K-sports now then?

The service from AP sounds superb and hopefully supports your faith in them C. I'm looking forwards to reading about what gets recommended as a suitable alternative to the Porterfields......maybe something like a parachute

Good service from AP indeed, good to know. You do find at this level that you really need to pay attention to brakes and correct matching as you tend to be operating at the maximum capacity of the component parts. Cooling is key here so good to get advice on ducting.

Wow so that was with the car just standing after a session with the handbrake on or off?
