Lol, Logan you drive an Evo - you know more about no MPG than most :) ...

Love the R32, I'd be happy with it being standard, I don't thrash around anymore. There are some lovely blue ones on Autotrader / Pistonheads / Ebay at the moment, so will carry on watching - and whilst I wait enjoy my (cheap to run, cheap to insure, cheap to service) silver one.

Howdy stranger :)

30mpg out of an Evo? Off boost, downhill, in neutral with the wind behind you maybe ;)

Seeing as I drive mine about 150 miles a year in the Evo then MPG isn't a big issue!!

When I was looking to replace the 350z I was seriously looking at a Mk5 R32 in that nice blue colour with the Recaro buckets. No doubt I'd of loved it as a road car, just the 20-24mpg put me off for the mileage I do.

I will coverting to the dirty diseasal side in 3 weeks from now...oh dear...

Hi Stuart, not a complete stranger, i regularly login. Just don't usually have anything interesting to add although i'm loving the build threads on here.

Beauty of driving on Spain and France's uncongested motorways is no traffic jams which kill the economy. I think the decat has improved things plus the remap by Dr Hayward might have eked soem extra mpgs too.

The secret is not to drive too fast. Even keeping to the limit, i always catch up the speeders at the next traffic jam haha... I keep fast driving for the track these days.

Sorry about the thread hijack by the way...

Ben, really like your GTI. A friend tuned the nuts of his Mk4 TDI a few years ago, always liked driving it but understand why you want to keep yours fairly standard. I too ditched the coilies and went back to lowered springs on the Evo. Hardcore cars are nice until you have to do long journeys eh?

Also i get what you said earlier about not doing the mods yourself but. It's been like that for me since i got the car 7 years ago. There's stuff i can do and stuff i can't but at the end of the day i have no tools or place to work either and have Gary nearby when the car needs tlc. No shame in that, the day i can't afford to pay someone i'll bodge along myself...

Gone are the days of car modding for me, I can't ever imagine spending the sums that I did on my GTR on a car ever again - I think all told this Golf has cost less than the clutch plus fitting on my GTR :). Admittedly my end game car is going to be an RS4 Avant, but that will have to wait until I've bought a new house with my girlfriend and we've got a garage.

I like comfort now :).

I more I look at the car, I think Ian is right, will paint the bottom bumper valances when it is in :) - plus going to clean up the engine bay as it's pretty mint under the bonnet.

It's funny how the simple things make me smile - just replaced all the dashboard trims, door handles etc ... the old ones had all that manky rubber peeling off - bought a genuine VW replacement kit for
