little bit of an update.

Nigel now has a brand new aux belt, tensioner and idler, new plugs, and new cambelt + idlers and tensioners. i'd love to take credit, but for once i didn't even get my hands dirty. an old mate from the sxoc had all the specialist tools for locking the floating cams in place an tensioning it all up, and sorted it out for me. 2.5 hours start to finish, and it only took that long because i kept interrupting him with questions. mind you he has done a few before. in fact the longest bit was the jaunt to Bedford and back, but even that was quite fun, took the lakenheath -> swaffham, route back, and found a roadside mexican food stand, aj's mmmmmmm burito, bloody good day all in all.

the cam belt cover, plastic bit had been broken and badly glued up, previous garage probly, now has a hole in it and the old belt was melted one side where it had been rubbing, on a floppy broken chunk. shouldn't rub now.

one of the inlet manifold threads is stripped, as is a coilpack thread, not a lot to worry about there, jobs for the future, and i need to replace the stud on one rad bracket as it snapped, better do that soon so the rad doesn't rub on anything vital. nowt much else to do, its kinda weird having a standard car, that just goes when you turn the key with no histrionics.

and its still standard! see, willpower!

if anyone wants a laugh renault norwich quoted......857 quid.... 5 hours labour.

Hurray!:hurray: You`ve got the aux belt done and without loosing any nuckels or putting a massive hole in your pocket! nice one:thumbs: Looking at that tensioner the change was n`t a moment too soon, a strong advertisment for anyone with one, to make sure they change theirs on time! (every 36k)
But what do you mean by a broken stud on the rad? They have four plastic lugs on the rad, do you mean that one of these are broken?

yup all done, you can relax now :) the top of one of the rad's is held in by a l shaped metal bracket with a rubber foot and a single stud (like a coach head bolt) through it welded in place, the 'stud' wrung off when romoving the slam panel. I'll get a pic.

Nice one Maff.

You were lucky to get the belts done for cheap. I have a customer with one of these and they searched for someone to do it other than Renault with great difficulty. not many people will touch them and there are horror stories about some places that have tried. Your mate is a star.

Heh, just noticed this thread and how long its been. Nigel has been bullet proof, work and back day in day out, and only needed a couple of front tyres and a service in the last 18 months. Psst Russ I put the air filter on, much better noise :)

Right, time for a change, Nigel has been bullet proof the last two years but I feel the need for a bit of a change, need to get some RWD or at least rear biased 4WD back in my life. So Nigel has to go, only thing is i havn't a clue what its worth.

So
2004 Renault Clio 182
Cat C
Belts done June 2010 at 77k
Just Hit 88k
Couple of dings in the roof, and on NSR wheel arch and some scabby paint on the OSR near the rear Window.

No rust I've found.

That's about it, thoughts? Swaps? Let me know. Then ill knock up a proper for sale add.

(No I wont swap for a packet of peanuts, dry roasted or otherwise).
