v3 STI
i said to myself i was going to keep this one :? but im thinking about throwing the towel in, i know im going to be losing loads of money on it and i really like the car but im thinking of a n/a car for cheap track time entertainment maybe a 306 gti6 and prepare it purely for trackwork , i have seen a nice white one for sale which has tempted me, i have considered keeping the sti but if im offered the right money it will be gone i may also sell a few bits of it first like brakes/cage/teins to recoup a few

I would give yourself a bit longer with it, try a couple of Sprints like you wanted to, I reckon that will change your mind. You can either be understeering through the tight bends or 4 wheel drifting, your choice

thats a shame trevor after all you have gone through with the car , i love these in white and the work you
have done could easily make me spend money i haven't got . good luck with your decision either way ,

A Impreza can be a very reliable car even when used on the track, look at Gerry H's wagon, last year that had some serious usage and never really missed a beat! As long as its mapped 100% and safe it should run fine!
And its not that heavy anyway

Then why not just leave it as it is for a while? You've chucked a fair few quid at this car in the short time you've had it. You're talking about doing some sprints and track days so why not just concentrate your efforts on enjoying the car as it is for this year?Tk wrote:it makes me smile in the state of tune it is at the moment especially the handling,
The car, in it's current state of mod. should be pretty reliable, especially as you've just had an engine rebuild. The drivetrain should survive at the power levels you're currently running. Used parts can be sourced easily and quite cheaply. There's so many Imprezas at this age, there's no shortage of parts. Don't know if you've ever had a car on a trailer before but you don't just chuck 'em on and go. My '95 WRX was completely reliable for 2.5yrs of road + trackdays, from 98k to 130k miles. Like you Trev, I ran the engine standard apart from decat. With coilovers etc and front brakes, with tyres up to and including slicks, it was excellent on track.
Can't think of any downside of forced induction per se. Thirsty on track, compared to a mate's 2-litre 900kg 205 for example, but then it did leave that car for dead.
Sold that one because it was getting on a bit ... now have a '98 STi which is getting the same treatment. This time I'm doing some engine work, but nothing too expensive.
Reading your 'for sale' ad, if I was buying now I'd be interested but incredulous. Mate, you've only just run it in - surely you want to see what it'll do now you ploughed so much effort and money into it?
Hope you keep it and come along to JISC this year!

i'l sleep on it, think i may have been thinking to much today
the trouble is i see a car and think hmmm i wouldnt mind that and think what i could do with it,, its why i have had so many cars over the years, it happends all the time :lol:
the teins are type HA 16 way top adjustable no idea of spring rates and dont have the adjustable top mounts
