it looks like i wont be receiving the new shell until sometime on thursday, so yesterday i took the head off the donor engine and prepped it ready to fit to my existing bottom end and super cheaty sprint ratio gearbox ;). today i will be swopping heads over, fitting ARP head studs and group N (TTE) metal headgasket.

heres a teaser pic, the contrast is a bit poo but thats a lightweight AP 4-pot caliper and 335x30mm disc you can almost see hidden behind the sexy TH3 compomotive wheel :)

it desperately needs a good wash too!

yep, monte carlo to be exact. its very nice :)
today i whipped the head off my engine, put the head from the donor car onto it along with a group N 1.4mm steel headgasket and ARP studs. i was pleasantly suprised to see how clean and unmarked the pistons were. theyre totally standard and only have a small amount of detonation marks on them (courtesy of tesco fuel).

the engine as taken out of my sunburst celica at christmas.

it was very dirty!

owen came down and gave me a hand with the spanners

Image
go on, PUT SOME EFFORT INTO IT!!

piston 1 :)

number 2...

Image
three...showing the most signs of det. this is traditionally the piston that breaks first on the 3S-GTE engine.

and finally, number 4

tomorrow the plan is to torque down the cams and double check valve clearances. then once that is done its time to refit manifolds and turbo and make up a few blanking plates for unused ports on the new head.
