Well it failed its MOT this year on a bit of a rusty front lower cross member, so I've started taking the front apart ready to grind it all out a put a new one on.

While the bumper and front wings were off i took the oportunity to remove the front coilovers as one of the topmounts has got stuck resulting in an occasional twang from the spring as it sorts itself.

Thats all maintenance, the fun is the new bits, got a mate who makes fibreglass bits for Scoobies, and asked him to nock up some arch extensions for me, got the first prototype today:

(sorry for the crap cameraphone pics, ill get some propper ones when i mock it up on the car).

Theyre 50mm wider rather than the 80mm of Jun arches, but even so i may still be a bit too wide, my thought was to run my R32 GTR wheels with 30mm spacers, but i think they'll still look a bit weak.

So anyone got any 9" 5 x 114.5 wheels i can borrow with a decent offset? while i work out what to buy.

Bryan V8Eater should have a pair of Z32 AFM's .. I was going to use them on my car but the piping would have required replacement so I decided against it.

While its in bits, i thought id take the time to have a look at whats twanging on the suspension, the top mounts are very stiff:

Mmmm gunky.

Stripped and cleaned.

And the offending bit, trouble is i cant get the case apart, tiny little allen head bolts stuck fast, its soaking in good old WD40 for the moment.

Looking good Maff, the arches will look cool. Are you cutting the normal ones away or just bolting the new ones over the top ?

Looking good bud! Those arches are going to look sweet, they remind me of the Jun arches.

Enough of the blingy bits, time to sort the MOT fails, rust front cross member.

After taking the front apart couldnt really work out why it'd failed, mostly surface rust and a couple of little holes he couldnt have seen.

Then i found the dreaded yellow chalk mark on the bottom of the rad, so whipped it out:

to look on the rear of the cross member:

Yeah... that'll be it.

So cleaned it up:

At which point it decided to rain on me, so i went inside and rebuilt the coilover i'd stripped:

Tomorrow its finish the grinding, plate up the holes, weld up the patch the previous monkey must have done :/ and paint these up while im at it:

And with a pair of brake pads the pointy datsun will live once more! :cheers2:
