1989 Celica GT-Four - Update:April 2008 Rebuild commences
yep, the cage definitely was worth it. i think the damage would have been much more severe to both car and occupants if i hadn't had it fitted.
today i've made quite a bit more progress...all suspension, brakes, rollbars, wishbones and related components have been removed, as has the rear subframe, petrol tank (with walbro pump) and loads of other bits.
to come out tomorrow are the engine and gearbox together, steering rack and driver's side wing (to replace the bent bits on the donor car).
the aim is to have everything i want to keep stripped off the car by nightfall on friday, then spend saturday morning getting the shell onto a trailer and scrapping it.

well the engine and gearbox are out. its suprisingly easy to do when armed with a 2-post ramp and a forklift truck
off into town now to collect the mighty pug (new exhaust fitted) and then back to the workshop to get all the fiddly bits off.
might crack out the plasma cutter later

Dodgy limit switch?
Are the two sides connected with a chain?

13T's, Greddy E-Manage, Greddy Profec E-01, RC 550's, 3SX fuel reg, Walbro, K&N, Tarox G88's and DS2500's all round, lowered, EGT probe, Intake temp probe, Nomad BOV, Short Shifter, Hella Upgrade, De-Cat, Powerflow Twin Exhaust, TechEdge Wideband Kit.
I assume you still have power to the thing...fuse or breaker not tripped?
Anyway, check the chain is intact and not come off the sprockets that drive the screws.
The limit switches are there to make sure the thing stops at the ends of the travel or to stop in the event of both the screws not rotating simultaneously, they are normally on some kind of flexible cable (like a bicycle brake cable) and a spring/cam arrangement. these are usually setup when the thing is installed and at each service.
The cable may have come loose or need some adjustment.
The wires run vertically on the driven side, should be visible behind an inspection cover.
Hope it helps...

thanks for your advice. i dont know what alex did, but he had fixed it by the time i rolled in at 10am
ive now finished removing all the bits i want to keep off the car, its just the matter of moving them from the workshop to my shed, and then dragging the carcass outside.
