Well I have found the weak points of the car

*Tyres (Ditchfinders are called that for a VERY good reason :o :o )

*Brakes (after Lisa running in the first novice group I took the car in the veteran group and 4 laps in I had bad brake fade) :o

*Really need to fit a bucket seat and a harness.

I had an off at Sears and managed to take out all the markers on the inside of the corner

I think I have bent or knocked something out of line as the car was pulling a bit to the left after that :?

Anyway thats the point in me getting a cheapo track toy at least it's not a 15k road car

Yes, i had to avoid the mess you make on track lol.

But you had fun Rob, that is the main thing.

It is not unusual for a car with standard brakes to get fade after only a few laps. You may find that some better discs, pads and fluid will make a big difference. I doubt you need to go bigger brakes as you have lost some weight off the car and they would be big money of course which would defeat the object of your budget car.
Come see me and i can work you out a deal for brakes, seat and harness etc.

Cheers

A little Update

Car has lost a little more weight (got a big pile of E30 in my garage now  )

Still need better brakes, tyres a seat and harness but things keep croping up so can't buy them just yet

After buying a set of 16" wheels for the car I have changed my mind and now looking to put 15" wheels on the car.

Got a few issues with the electrics on the car think there is a bad earth somewhere as I get some weird things happen every now and again.

Apart from that not a lot to report.

looks like good progress there Rob. We've learned a couple of lessons with our E30 that might be of some use from the'Ring trip.
We found the German, Swedish and French uprated discs (From memory Zimmerman) pretty good, and for pads, we got greenstuffs. I think next time we'd fit yellows and see how they go. We fitted Toyo T1RS's in 195/50/15, and they just stuck like brown stuff to a blanket. They wore really well too, even after a 1500 mile round trip (230 miles round the 'Ring too). I know Stuart raves about the 888's in this size, so they'd be worth a look too!
Good luck with it anyway, hope this is of use.

Thanks

I was thinking T1R's for the tyres I had them on the Scooby and they were pretty good and I spotted in your thead that you fitted the Zimmerman discs. Think I will go for the Yellows.

Just need to get some 15" wheels now

Can i suggest a good free (ish mod) Port match the manifold to the head etc. Simple drill grinder will do the job.... Made a significant difference to mine... Ditch the viscous fan and fit electric spal.. Car will then love to rev more than it does anyway...

Used to have one great under estimated cars....

New tyres are now on :-D What a differance the old girl accually wants to go round corners now :-D

Just got to get the new brakes fitted then I think I'm starting to get somewhere with it :o

Looking at how far the car has come I'm quite pleased with myself as most of the work has been carried out by me.

Jobs done:

Fitted suspension
Fitted polybushes
Fitted stainless brakelines
Fitted new Antiroll bars front and rear
Fitted new tyres
Removed carpet, rear seats and other non required items

Jobs to do:

Fit Brake discs and pads
Get the geometry set up
Remove sound deadening tar
Remove more weight
Buy and Fit Bucket seat
Buy and Fit a Rollcage

Then maybe:

Lightweight bonnet and bootlid
Respray the car!!

I'm sure loads more little jobs will crop up on the way.
