STi Time Attack 2008 - new dyno figures !!
Power Update
Despite me saying that I was at the upper limit of what the turbo could produce I have been tweaking with the maps myself to see what I could do with a lot of available time and a completely anal approach to logging and reviewing the logs.
Mocom Racing have done all my mapping to date but being done on Open Source as it was always my intention to take this on myself at some point in the future. Zak was aware of this and has helped me to understand what he has done and why he has done it.
I have never mapped the car before but over the past 4 weeks, i have been experimenting with the various elements of the mapping to understand the relationship between them and how to get the best out of it.
This has not been a quick process but a very enjoyable one and can confirm that the car is performing better now (torque around 7% up/ peak power will be up too) and will hold 1.2 bar to redline
It also now hits boost target in all gears apart from 1st. (but who drives in 1st ??)
I will do a dyno run shortly to see what the figures are and post them up.
please note that this is not a sleight on Zak at Mocom's work - he is simply superb IMO but like any tuner there is so much that can be done during a session that it is not possible to fine tune it to the n'th degree.

Well done Duncan - you must be pretty chuffed to have got some decent gains by yourself. I'm sure you've got more confidence in the car as well knowing exactly what certain areas of the map are there for. I certainly learnt something when we were tweaking the map when we had the overheating problems in Germany.

Re: Power Update
You're a brave man Duncan. I take my hat off to you (if I had one)dynamix wrote:Despite me saying that I was at the upper limit of what the turbo could produce I have been tweaking with the maps myself to see what I could do with a lot of available time and a completely anal approach to logging and reviewing the logs.

I think with most tuners, they won't go to the n'th degree on a customer's car but keep to the safe side of the line. If it goes pop after you've fiddled with it you only have yourself to blame. iyswim (that's not intended as a sleight on you)

Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!
You're right Gerry... if it goes pop - it is my fault. I have been even more anal about my logging over the past 3-4 weeks (yes it is possible
) to see what does what and checked all fueling with wideband. It is running slightly richer than before and has an extra degree of safety in there too with an extra row on the timing table with lower timing for a higher load than I have acheived just in case.... so far there have been around 20-25 revisions of the map with extensive notes written on each one
Previously it peaked at 3.07 load at the ring and now I can get 3.3 on the road here. Load is proportional to torque... so heading in the right direction.
I would like to get it on the dyno at Gary's to double check everything and also to play around with the cam timing to see whether gains can be made there too aswell as try out methanol to see what difference that could make to timing so that I have some facts of my own before moving on to bigger and better turbos.
