Gutted that I came 17th and therefore missed the finals on Sunday.
Apologies to anyone hoping to see the Orange in action - but there were a few issues to contend with on the day and I guess I just sucked a bit too !!!
See you all on Wednesday - in the new and more road friendly Orange !!!
Yay !!

Well,
Im off to GBH in a mo to get the car, then onwards and upwards to North Weald to get qualifying done and dusted. Hopefully it doesnt rain during the proceedings as it makes it much more of a lottery as Knockhill showed.
As some here know the car has experienced a few troubles this year as we increased the spec so much from last year, and as always when you raise power 50+% you inevitably start finding the weak bits. First off we were destroying belts, then my throttle position sensor failed which culminated in a loss of a possible result and the belts going meant massive overheating problem at Silverstone which would keep rumbling on until now !! This was cured but we then found out at a track test that it was now overheating on its own, so the engine came back out, was checked and the head was found to be fractionally warped. It got skimmed, rebuilt and went to the driftday at Snetterton where the car was still overheating, so we fitted bigger radiator, new fans and a few other bits as well as new oil breather system. Off to Knockhill, got a result, but still with temps all over the place and some issues. Out came the engine again and this time we found the root cause of the problem............The liner on #1 was going oval, which isnt normally a problem until you get serious boost or 500bhp on SR engines, in fact many of the bigger Jap engines dont run liners, however this proved to be the key and now with HKS tophat versions that also have a couple of other benefits it means the engine should hopefully run 600+bhp all day without issue.
At this point we also noticed that it was getting to the edge of what we thought was safe mapping wise now the engine had bedded in and with the couple of skims that were required altering the C/R it went to Abbeys on tuesday to get remapped and made perfect for this weekend - we also run the engines in on the dyno as its better, more accurate and allows more flexibility than the road for the job - only takes an hour too !!! Here is the result of the mapping work which allowed even more playing around and got the very best out the engine now its fundamentally seen some heat and wear.....

................to say Im chuffed is an understatement. We have found an extra 15bhp and 30lb/ft at the hubs with no more boost, the turbo is possibly at the end of its limits once the revs rise, causing the boost to tail off slightly, otherwise we think we could have seen 450@hubs. All I can say is a massive thank you to Bob, Geoff and the guys at GBH, obviously Danoh, Mark and Tony at Abbeys, as well as my other sponsors - Yokohama, Fulford Motorsport, HKS, Yau Imports for getting us where we are now. I wanted over 450bhp in the orange and now I've well and truly got past that number................500flywheel next stop then !!!
WoooooooooHooooo

I have issues !!!
....I used to be average, now I reminisce !!!

Glad things are going well.
Good luck on the track mate.
You not only have great power figures but great torque too which is coming on really strong at 3500. This must give a real kick.
I would love to see the spec sheet for your turbo
