Could you not use a donut gasket, similar to what the subarus use at the bottom of the standard downpipe?

Exhaust paste pre turbo?? I pray to god you havent knocked the turbo so far out of balance, that it sh1ts itself. Fingers crossed you are ok.

Must admit have nevervseen a donut gasket will have to look into that. Thanks.

With regards the water issue we found that we had a hole in the rad, however we don't have a spare as the rad is from a scorpio cosworth  . Bart did have a spare rad from his last sierra GT. Took a bit more fabrication but finally managed to get it to fit. Not had chance to test it though as this morning when Alan was on his way over the brakes failed on his GT and he narrowly avoided an accident by ripping the handbrake up so spent most the day fixing his car.
A bit of a shite day...............Still tomorrow's another day.

Took the car out this morning and again the water system over pressurised however I checked it early enough so it didn't blow out the cap. Also at the point the temperature had not gone up.

When I got back was checking things over and noticed that we still had a water leak managed to trace it to the top hose from the rad to the engine. Whilst at it I removed the plugs one at a time placed a piece of cardboard across the plug hole and turned the engine over to see if any water sprayed out, thankfully there was none.

Next step will be to remove the hose and find out why it is leaking, fix the problem and test the car again.

It feels like a completely different car to last year and it still needs setting up and we're still not running the boost that we want to or the boost that the engine was built to run.
Just got to work through these problems and get it run.

Head gasket and Turbo

Post by pablo »

Well things are looking pretty bleak today. It looks very much as if a head basket has gone and also the turbo has shite it's itself :x

Head gaskets ordered x2 and a new turbo to be collected Monday :x

Whats the car actually doing? Is the water coming up to temp and holding or overheating? Is it actually blowing the cap off when up to temp or before hand?? Thinking what it can be for you after a complete rebuild?
Where the heads skimmed?

I take it that turbo kit is specifically for the 2.8?

Pete has a 2.9 12v and a 2.9 24v engine and I'm sure he'd lend you one if that would help. Call me tomorrow if that helps.
