Just to bring this thread up to date. Following the rebuild of the engine we found ourselves faced with another problem the turbo would not produce more than about 4psi of boost. After removing the turbo we found a load of exhaust paste in the exhaust housing.

Talk about a steep leaning curve
Anyway this was all removed and the turbo refitted. On the morning of the club meet we took the car to our dyno centre and things were looking better but still it would not produce more than 10psi. 5 minutes after leaving the dyno center and starting the long drive to snetterton the turbo started making the sound of a seized turbo :x
We took the turbo back off that weekend as the plan was to replace it and yet again we were greeted by exhaust paste in the housing
Step in the man with a plan Bart
. He ran into the shed and came out with pieces of tube and hoses and proceeded to re plumb the intake system and the oil feed pipes...........WHY :?:
His idea was to re plumb the system without the turbo so that we could start the car and hopefully blow out anymore exhaust paste.

When i fired the car up Bart was sprayed with even more paste and boy was it load  . Sorry neighbours
The result of Barts creative thinking................................. 16psi and climbing
Took the car out for a drive last night when I noticed water was spraying onto the windscreen and the temperature gauge was starting to rise. :x
Head gasket or air blockage............The investigations start today.
Happy Easter

Sorry to hear but stick with it !! Barts ingenuity is becoming legendary !!!
as i see it mate its always a learning curve, these mistakes happen but i learn from them
i like to think if there is a problem there is always a way around it and think very much outside the box
as i am dislexic i am very practical minded.
dunc its from halfords :-D seriously thow the cross over pipe is flaired out and the manifolds are flaired
in and because the car is so old it needs exhaust paste to seal it.
Happy Easter chaps
Sounds a tricky problem to get it to seal.
Is it possible to assemble the crossover pipe and then use some heat wrap, loaded with paste and wrap it around the joint. Reinforce with three jubilee clips, one either side of the joint and one on top of it? Or using whatever clamp holds it?
Piece of cake from where I'm sitting, with a cuppa.

gerry that is a good idea mate which i may just look into but it would only work on the off
side of the engine. the main issue is were it bolts onto the turbo manifold and its a absolute pig
to fit as there is no room to get under there.
there is a lot of cursing and swearing when fitting it
this is how the cross over sits on each manifold.

Is it possible to weld a short piece of tube into the bell mouth of the cross-over pipe that will sit snugly into the manifold and turbo manifold? If that were possible, you could then use a smear of paste on the bell of the pipe without it getting into the pipe iyswim?
