So finally an update from me.

The Type R is now going in for her complete make over - I've started striping ready for the full on rework. Unfortunately the evidence of a jap repair has come to light so I've sourced 50% of a P1 (we're cutting it from the doors and to the top of the rear pillars) that is in perfect condition to be the donor for the inner wing and maybe some external parts. Now you're probably thinking from the photo that cutting out the side is overkill but I simply don't want it to rust again with 24 months!.

So some photos of the stripped out car ready for her July 19th operation.

Whilst the car is in, the 18's will be refurbed plus I've found nearly all the underside components so that can be powder coated - Then it will be a call to Stu to underseal. This is a restoration to mint original condition. I will also source original stickers for the boot lid. I have the side decals and light decals ready.

To add, I have a complete new intercooler kit, currently polished silver - but will be powder coating black along with the current intercooler. Plus sourcing a spare plenum to be crinkle painted red.

And ... there's more

Will be painting the interior of the boot, redoing inside the bonnet - going for a mint track car as I will definitely still be tracking the car - it's built for it.

Black intercooler = lower temps (MCM :willy_nilly: )

if you need a hand with stripping, give us a nudge, more than welcome to help

Nice work Ben, gonna look good with the work being done and yep black intercooler will also look pretty evil. Sorting that intake manifold will spruce up your engine bay no end.

Then some Volks....... ;)

Are you sure about powder coating the intercooler Ben? Powder coat is a lot thicker than just lightly wet coating it, i.e. the cooling efficiency won't be as good. In fact why paint it at all? It's like painting an engine block with Hammerite, you're just going to trap heat rather than dissipate it.

So three aussies in a shed bench testing with a fan, hairdryer, sensors and some rattle paint means that it works? #youtubescience

Wonder what the ambient temperature was between the tests? It's hardly going to be the same as a car idling on test and then on a dyno test. I'd personally take the video with a pinch of salt. If it made a significant difference, why haven't car manufactures that spend tens of millions on research each year haven't already thought and tested this? In fact if you want to remove heat then gold would be a better heat reflector.

I am sure the likes of Toyota, Ford, BMW etc have better test equipment than MCM.

For interest, only the front face of the intercooler is being painted black, not powdercoated... should have been more accurate with my description. Could have saved quoting mcm :)
