The dream is over
Went over with Alan to streetracers today as the plan was to drive the car home today. well that was the plan. The morning went well and by lunchtime the final bits were done and even the exhaust was on. It was time to fire up the car for the first time. Gordon filled it with oil and cranked it over, it fired into life a quick check for oil leaks, none found and then switched it off after only running for 1 minute. All good. The water was then added and we cranked it over again, nothing, tried again and nothing, stone dead. Gordon then turned the engine over by hand and tried again. It fired into life, sounding sweet and smooth, but for a very slight misfire. We also notice water coming out of the exhaust. Switched it off and checked a few things, everything seemed ok so started it again, still the water came out, took the cap off the expansion tank to carry out some checks, none found. The misfire was still there so Gordon started checking the plugs and found the fault to be on No4 cylinder so he took the plug out to have a look. WATER IN THE BORE and still filling.
This confused the fuck out of all of us as the car hadn't been running for more than a couple of minutes and only on tickover. Conclusion, head gasket, Cracked head or cracked block. Once things, tempers, had calmed down Alan set about taking the head off.
It had blown a hole in cylinder bore 4.
The block is now scrap. So we won't be entering the last round of time attack and as to where we go from here. We don't know yet.
12 months planning and all that work down the drain.
It doesn't end there had an email in the week from a perspective sponsor

Thanks for your kind words of support guys.
It's a real bitter pill to swallow, after doinging everything we could to make this engine reliable (as any engine can be). To suffer a failure like this at the first turn of the key is a real kick in the bollocks.
The block will have to stripped, the piston and ring inspected / replaced, new gaskets and a new block sourced and machined. With the cost of that lot and the
