Don't think so Bud. Have a feeling their trading address is Surrey Rolling road as charlie is involved in the business with Ryan

Yep you're right, I've just checked on Street View, the sign on the unit actually read 'Sytec' not 'Syvec'.
I was visiting Mikina and H4H on Friday down at Downton, Salisbury and they were slap bang in the middle.

Yeah I've been really pleased with mine. Although the only comparison on the GTR was old Power FC so probabloy not a good comparison.

I don't know what model you're looking at but my one has loads of features, including the ability to connect to it remotely via wifi so your tuner can access the map if you're at a circuit etc and they aren't.

Can't really say anything more than that it does what it say on the tin and hasn't done anything wrong (touch wood). I know Ryan (one of the brains behind it) since it was him who mapped my car so could have a word with him if you like.
I think it is the S6 model. I have contacted Ryan via email and he has sent me the info. If you know him and don't mind speaking to him for me then that would be great thanks :D

Hoorah, rather than sitting around in the garage forever the Carbon Bonnet is on :) I have to say I'm pretty pleased with it, seems very good quality in that it fits well and also seems very strong - although slightly less so after I authorised Daz to cut the central strengthening bar out to clear the strut brace

I bought some new aero catches (my error being getting the "carbon look" ones which I'm sure I saw on paul or steves supra and thought looked good, but now I think look shit) and these were repositioned far more centrally. Daz also wound the rubber stops right up and after lots of fucking about the bonnet fits very tightly and feels very secure when locked, i don't think it will lift like the old one. The o/s is slightly raised from the wing but not bad at all.

I also took it to the bodyshop - more of which in next post and welcome advice - and sat in London 4pm traffic. While there I noticed that above the vent above the turbos everything went all heat wobbly, but not across the rest of the bonnet, so this makes me very happy as it means that turb heat is coming out, which of course was the whole plan :hurray:

Anyway, also think it looks good so here's some pics

OK so here's where i need advice #1 - bonnet prep

As I hope you can see from the pics below the bonnet seems to have a lot of filler all the way across under the paint. I dont know why that would be, but then i know nothing about paint, filler, carbon, or pretty much anything really.

Here's where I rubbed it down to see if really was a carbon bonnet, or if i'd been stitched

Image

Here you can see where it had a big gouge in it, and then the bodyshop man took a chisel to it

Here's some more scrapage

The weird thing is there seems to be a lot filler but it's all over the bonnet. Whatever it is under the paint is also soft in many areas - mainly where there;s been a lot of heat - you can literally stick your thumb nail into it.

Why would that be the case - is it just a shit paint job and shit prep. Or is the bonnet all cracked and fucked and held together with a bit of filler?

Anyway. The main advice i want is repainting it. The guy said he thought there was bucket loads of prep to rub it all back and quoted me 3-400 sheets for the job (inc painting it blue) which struck me as a lot. I do intend to get another quote as he did say he's not done carbon before. But my thoughts are, regardless of that, getting all that shit off is a bit of a job right, regardless of carbon?

Saying that, when I attacked it with Daz's disc thing it seemed to rub down ok, as per pic 1.

Anyway, i'm wittering on, thoughts on this?

Advice #2

I will take the abuse, but I can't help thinking I want my Nismo lip back....... I really think it looks a bit plain without it. Also confident the bonnet wont lift..... fingers crossed....

Easy one first
Refit the Nismo lip........what's the worst that could happen ;) joking aside if the aerocatches and rubber bonnet plugs are flush with the bonnet when in the shut position then you should be OK.......it's just an unknown quantity until you hit 140+ I suppose.

Now, the difficult to pin down question
The 'filler/primer/undercoat' is difficult to quantify without seeing it but I suspect that it is primer that hasn't gone off properly and this could be for a number of reasons (paint sprayed on before the primer had gone off, primer not mixed properly prior to spraying etc).

Looks good and functional mate and I'd definately refit the Nismo lip

to be fair as soon as I saw that close up pic I thought it was more likely primer than filler but obviously I haven't seen it up close. Maybe there are a couple of gouges under there that have been fillered and then rushed over?

and I agree regarding the carbon look aerocatches (or anything carbon look for that matter) I don't like it. Have you considered painting them black/replacing them?
