Right, engine mounts done .. god that is a horrid job on your back with the engine still in. Next time (if there is a next time) it will be out for it.

Headers, up-pipe, turbo and downpipe all off and ready for re-wrapping and preventative maintenance.

Now for double helpings of pain and fitting the sump... old sump is off. The cosworth baffle plate needs cleaning and this and the new baffled sump will be fitted shortly.

I have also checked big end bearings and studied the oil for tell-tales signs of bearing issues and thankfully all is good.... phew. Also checked the oil pick up pipe for cracks like last time... again phew :)

I wont be able to finish this today as old up-pipe gasket had decided to disitengrate... grr. This explains why it was lacking power-wise though :)

Duncan, Did you fit the new engine mounts with the headers in place or out as that's probably my next job when i've got some more dosh. Engine mounts, pitch stabaliser and gearbox mount. I hear they can be a pain with the headers in situ.

Headers and up-pipe were off - not too bad apart from getting to the rear bolt on the mount. Pain was the thicker ARB i have and not being able to get a socket onto the mount to chassis bolt due to this. Easy to drop the ARB though to allow room.

+ While the engine was suspended it is easy to get to the sump bolts.

very impressive build just read it front to back and in the redline mag great to see how its come along rather than just the finished product.

jus a couple off questions,

,what was the purpose off cutting out the spare wheel well?

and does the front splitters help ive personally thought about going down this route for my scoob but didnt know if they were worth it or where to get one from

thanks :D

The purpose of the spare wheel well will become clear soon ;) Not sure whether this will be in place for round 1 though :(

Front splitter definitely works - very noticeable at track speeds but a right pain in the arse on the road as it is always catching now. I made mine very robust though and it acts like a sort of sump guard

so...

Baffled sump is fully in place, I had to make some minor modification to the oil pick up pipe rear stay to enable it to fit with the sump baffle without fouling but a good excuse to use the dremel to do it. It is also a lot easier to refit the baffle plate with this mod so I didnt need 3 hands this time. Sump went back on and dropped the engine down to bolt the mounts in place. This should be an improvement.

Headers and up-pipe were removed as part of this job and also to rewrap them. Lucky I did this as it showed that the 3 bolt up-pipe gasket had split into 3 parts and was not sealing the exhaust. Looks like it has been like this for ages so it would have been costing spool up and power.

I got some fresh new exhaust wrap and a new gasket from Lateral and re-wrapped the headers/up-pipe as the old stuff was hanging off.

I fitted these back on last night.

Also done:

- re-routed the MAP sensor take off to a central position to give smoother boost control. It was taking off from the FPR vacuum take off.

- re-routed the cylinder head breather pipes

- regreased ARB bushes

- properly fitted the towing eye

- tidied the induction kit pipework to reduce pushing out of wheel arch liner. This has reduced but i still need to make some proper wheel arch liners that fit with the new wider wings.

The need to do list for round 1 is looking very small now :D :D and should be finished on friday/saturday leaving next week to clean the car, bleed the brakes again and do a couple of nice to do bits.

Nice job of wrapping those pipes Duncan. :thumb:

Have you not thought about a ceramic coating instead? Do it once and forget type thing. :D

I have, but way too much money to get them done. I know you did yours though.

Wrapping works for the sake of a few pence :)

Duuncan, if you havent do it all ready, I would use some stainless steel locking wire on the gt-spec. I used jublee clips on my down pipe when i first wrapted it, and they susted through, the second time i wrapted it, i used the extreme wrap from zen, and s/steel locking wire, and have had no problems at all.

The troule with stainless locking wire is, if you forget it's there (it's not easy to see even when new), you can rip your hand open.

Stainless jubilee clips is the way to go. Fit and forget. :)
