What chemicals can used to speed up the process without hurting the carbon?

Loads of variables mate
-what paint was applied?
-how was the paint cured?
-what preparation process was used prior to paint?
-what lacquer is/was on the carbon bonnet in the first place?

I think you would need to be prepared to re-polish and lacquer the bonnet at the very least.

If the top coat is starting to tarnish, it may well be able to be polished back up to a high standard Chris. Happy to check on the 13th if you like.....

Shall we let Monster have his thread back? :D

Haha, steal away!

Interesting input chaps thanks. Will have to see what it's like when it turns up but I'm not really fussed either way about having it carbon, would be equally if not more happy with blue. More importantly I hope I can get my calsonic logos over the vents etc ok :D

back to the carbon/paint point though, being a carbon virgin, presume a normal body shop can do all of this? Also, is returning it to carbon likely to be more hassle/cost? tbh I just wanna get it on the car and keep those temps down

Cheapest/easiest option is to scotch the existing paint down and then paint directly on top of this. As long as something like panel wipe/IPA is used once you've removed or etched the top coat then you should be fine (this is where you find that your blue is somekind of weird special one off colour)

Yes, any bodyshop could do it and it needn't be expensive so don't get your pants pulled down.

Roger that thanks, will have a word with the body shop once it turns up and see which way to go.

Getting quite excited about the new bonnet turning up, but equally annoying myself. I know that (cooling aside) one of the drivers for this was to prevent the folding up at speed, but I keep thinking about putting another lip on it as I'm not sure I'll like the look without it.

Had a look tonight and even if I move the catches I dont reckon there's anywhere I can position them to make enough difference to the lift, i.e much closer to the fornt of the bonnet, so maybe the lip will have to stay off....

Could always ask your bodyshop to add some GRP matting to the leading edge of your 'new' bonnet. Some reinforcement won't add much weight and it may give you peace of mind if nothing else
