Air box drilled, K+N turns out to be a nearly new BMC :)
This will go in Monday, and hopefully service it during the week too.
Few more bits to go on eBay, and then I might look at some shiny bits ;) (Or bank it for a track day)

Can't help thinking it would look better lowered.....

This is like deja vu! Yeah you could lower it by about 20/30mm but any more than that and you stand a chance of your car's driveshafts knocking on the chassis rails. It may also be worth looking at the clearance of the wider wheels against the arch under full load (This is an easy and slightly amusing one; get Amanda to stand in the corresponding door and have a measure up allowing for a further 20/30mm drop)

Things to do..........

Post by Rob S »

....I've a list of things I'd love to sort out on the old girl, including some work on the bonnet that spoil what is otherwise a nice clean car........

I'll speak to the big fella about what he tried, and take it from there. It'll be cheaper to try and fix than buy another red bonnet, but that's always plan B ;)

Also I mentioned previously a little eBay scoop of a cotton panel filter and factory airbox. A popular mod (cos it's cheap and sounds good) is to drill the lower half of the airbox to allow the sound of the diverter valve to come out.

I've never done this before, so thought I'd give it a go, and if I cock it up, I've always got the one currently fitted to the car to revert back to.

So far this is where I've got to......

Thank you eBay

I'm compiling a list of service items to give it the once over this week.

It's keeping me off the street corners at night anyway :) Thanks for humouring me.....

The bonnet was rubbed down to the steel which showed two to three small holes. This was daubed in Kurust, which obviously didn't, and then P38 and P45 until smooth. Then it was repainted.........in a vaguely similar colour.

My guess was that one of the previous owners fitted removed the bonnet liner and somehow water has seaped into that area and knackered it. If you could see me now I would be shrugging my shoulders :)

If I were you Rob I would
a) stickerbomb the entire car
b) roller it
c) spend

Thanks for the help!!
With Andy and Chris both being totally OCD with their motors, there's no chance I can NOT polish it! I'm like the poor relation already ;)

Do you think you've drilled enough holes in that airbox?

It looks like he missed on in the bottom right ;)

Good work though Rob. Surely a scrappie can get a cheap bonnet ?

You'd think so!
What makes me laugh is the two people with red bonnets the right shape on ebay are both traders. I emailed both asking how much they wanted for their bonnets (they were listing other items) and NEITHER REPLIED. Some people bleet on about how hard it is at the moment in business, and yet when someone is actively chasing a sale.........
I'll try and fix it, the worst that can happen is it looks a bit crap.
@ Pab's, to be honest, boredom had kicked in, I might do them before it goes on during the week.
I'll see about taking a before and after soundclip too.
Hoping for something like this.....
